I've been looking for a decent online stats tracker. Here is what I would like:

Handicap calculation
Shot by shot stats
Course hole stats
Free

Basically, I would like to be able to see that 70% of the time I push my 5 iron when hitting from a bare lie or on a certain par 3 I'm over the green 65% of the time.

If anyone knows of a site that will do this for free, let me know. Otherwise I'll build it myself.

Although that sounds like a great idea, I think what you're looking for could be a lot easier than a website. Get a journal and put it in your bag, keep track of your shots. I haven't ever heard of a website that could keep track of individual shots, that would require individual input of each shot too, which would basically be keeping a journal of your round...

Journaling is absolutely a part of it. You have to collect stats to benefit from stats. What a journal won't do is allow you to pull up a golf hole at your course and see how many topped drives you've had, or see if you hit your 6 iron and your 5 iron the same distances most of the time.

I made a doc to record shot by shot stats, http://stuntcode.com/golf/golfstats.pdf

It's a little busy, but basically each hole has a column under it. For each shot on a hole, you would record club, distance, lie and quality (1-10). You would also record if this shot hit the fairway (F) Green (G) or Bunker (S). Their is also a 9-box grid that will let you show the shot shape. So a fade would be the top left box. A slice would be the center left box. A top would be the center top box. A flush hit would be the center box. etc. I guess I would record a push or pull by putting a P in the grid on the left or right.

Clearly this is not something I would do while playing a round with someone else, this is more intended for use while playing alone during the week. I've always tracked fairways, greens, up and downs and putts. I'm hoping this will help me get more detailed info about what parts of my game need the most work.

ahh I see what you mean. Nice work on the layout, kinda confusing but I see what you're getting at. Keeping statistics is a really good way to keep track of your game. Once you get used to it, you'll be able to adjust your practice routine to focus more on the weaker aspects of your game. Sorry I couldn't contribute any websites to help, but good luck with it.

It's not as detialed as you are wanting, but it's not bad for free. GIR, Fairways, Putts, and figures your handicap. Havn't found a good online solution for shot by shot unless you build it yourself.

That works. I tried shooting a couple of rounds with my sheets, but it was way too much analysis. The lab coat kept messing up my back swing. I've decided to use greenskeeper.org and I'm also keeping track of mis-hit shots and great shots. Then I can keep the clubs I'm mis-hitting and the clubs I'm hitting great in a spreadsheet and that will probably show me a trend after a while.

Tried out Greenskeeper tonight inputting my last few rounds, and it's a really fantastic site.

Thanks Dent!

Well I calculated it out using my last 12 or so rounds and my handicap is right where I estimated, at 11.5.

(Although to be fair that does include the worst round of recent memory, +11 for 9 holes)

This is old thread but thought it was a good place to post this.

I've also been looking for a good stats website for free and found the golf application on Facebook to be the perfect thing for me. It links into your profile and gives a pretty good amount of stats. Plus you can type in your course and the scorecard will likely already be entered. If it isn't the course is remembered and you can add favorite courses. Perfect for a guy like me that doesn't have a home course! This is just what the doctor ordered for getting a close approximation of a handicap plus telling me where I need to improve by showing tons of stats.

I thought I was about a 10 handicap but turns out I'm more like an 8.

    • Day 27 (4 Apr 26) - Worked with grandson on basic pitches/punches in the back yard with varied irons/wedges.  Wrapped up the day rolling some putts on the 30’ carpet I can set up in the yard to give varied terrain - and this carpet rolls almost too easy. A great way to figure a read and know that pace has to be near perfect to get in the hole.
    • A bit of a struggle today.  Just some thoughts/musings.  For the backswing, it is like I am never going to be moving on from this. I don't know if I can ever get to the point where the backswing isn't like over 1.5 seconds in duration. Which is probably not ideal. I would like to get to the point where I can just fling the arms back and up.  I have to feel like my hands are going to hit my right thigh from P1 to P2. If not then they like to move 2-5 inches towards the ball from P1 to P2. Then it's just bad from there. This feeling is my hands not gaining much depth, just maintaining depth from set up. From the DTL view, the hands head towards the camera.  While I am doing that, hinge the crap out of the club with my wrist only. Hinge in a way that the club is pointing at the camera at P2.  From P2, lift the hands straight up. I can get here, and still roll the club inside and get it way too shallow.  With the downswing. There isn't much here. I still can't get the flow of this or the sequencing of this to line up. It doesn't help that hinging from P1 to P2 just throws off my entire timing as well.
