whilst playing a mixed doubles comp at the weekend the lady captian decided to miss out 3 holes which everyone else had to follow, after the comp the team that were winning had to settle for 2nd place because the team that had come 2nd complained that the course had been shortened so the handicaps would have been wrong. Can anyone let me know if the handicaps can be changed when they were set for a 18 hole comp, but half way through the comp it was decided to change to a 15 hole comp, many thanks, kev.

Under the rules for a competition, the committee can't change the stipulated round in mid tournament.  I haven't even bothered to look it up, but my feeling is that if something happened to make those holes somehow unplayable, then the round should have been canceled or postponed.  If it was just done on a whim, then it's time for a new captain.  Or give her some training on how to run a competition.

That's correct, the round can't be shortened after it has already started.  I would be pissed if I was in a competition run like that.  I've never seen anything like that happen before.

    • Hopefully this one is better
    • Patrick Cantlay's strokes gained from 2024: I wonder if he takes more time on approach shots given that was the worst part of his game last season. And then here are his 2023 stats: Much better ball striking season. I wonder if there are any differences in his times between these two seasons. I tend to think he's just slow in general, but it'd be interesting to see his time differences.
    • Not sure, I think players have their own pace. Speith was always slow, regardless if he was in contention or not. Well, more so when he was in contention. It might be a push there on that question.
    • Without knowing the study at all, this could be more of a reflection of who is tournament ready and who isn't. If you have a quick trigger, it could mean your swing is working really well. Fidgeting, lots of rehearsals, maybe means your swing's not functioning as well as you'd like it to and you need more time to feel it all out before you hit your shot.
    • A study done by the European Tour shows spending less time over the ball produces better shots.  This makes sense. I can see where if you are over the ball a long time you lose the ability to make a more athletic swing. There is also the possibility of just overthinking the shot while over the wall as well and not being in the right headspace.
