I use Bridgestone balls now but, what do you guys think about Bridgestone driver, irons, wedges? I'm looking to upgrade my Burner 2.0 driver by the end of the year. Has any played the J40 clubs, and what do you think about them compared to the competition?

I know a lot of people who really like their clubs and swear by them, not to mention Tourstage is the #1 brand in Japan.  Ive owned a few of their woods (J33 driver, J38 3-wood and 5-wood), one of their wedges (West Coast Design) and a few sets of their irons (J36, Precept Tour Premium and GC Mid) and Im not a big lover of their clubs.  For me, they just didnt perform as well as the Mizuno clubs that Ive owned.  I got a pretty low ballflight with their woods and I found the feel of their forged irons to be a bit too firm.  Also, with the GC Mids I found the distance to be somewhat inconsistent.

My Bstone wedge was nice, I didnt find it to be the spinniest wedge in the world though and again, the feel wasnt as soft as I would like.

I absolutely love Bridgestone's golf balls and really wanted to like their clubs but I just wasnt a big fan of them.

Agree about the balls, they are definitely my favorite. And I too want to like there clubs, but the price tag on their irons is enough to make me hit them at the local Golfsmith a few more times. And none of my friends have Bridgestone clubs.

Impressed with the B irons this season.

In April, a guy I know let me hit his J36 irons with Nippon NS Pro 1050 (I believe) stiff shafts. I hit four of six shots dead solid with his 6 iron. I was a bit surprised, as I had dumped stiff shafts in all my clubs and gone back to regular in 2009. (Since then, a couple of our fellow Sand Trappers have suggested that the NS Pro shafts have flexes a tad softer than most other brands).

A Bridgestone ballfitting team showed up at my club in mid-July. Besides balls they brought some irons with them.

I hit a 4i, 6i, and 8i in the J40 Dual-Pocket Cavity - shafted in PX 5.0. This model seemed to move through the ball quite well. I have the same shafts in Callaway X20 Tour, and the J40s seemed a bit livelier going through the turf.

The J40s had an easy set-up for me, and really felt good. (J40s might need to be more upright in lie if I got a set). Give the Bridgestones a try. If you could find a slightly used set somewhere that fit you for lie and flex, you could get a really good deal.

J33R460 and 420 have cult followings and are 1 of the greatest heads of ALL TIME! I still have one I've had refinished and shafted with a Grafalloy Wounded Warrior. Sort of my tribute to our Service people.

Very low spinning head. Has a sound and feel like no other. If you're a slow swinger, not a good fit as it's a spin killer.

I have the J40 driver and J40 irons (dual pocket cavity in 3-4i, and cavity-back in 5-pw).  I absolutely love them.  I'm 49 years old and hit the ball farther than I've ever hit it.  As a reference point, I love my J40 driver as much as my RBZ 3-wood, which says a lot.

I had too much spin on my driver in the past, so I got the J40 (spin killer) and tee it up a little farther forward.

I like the J40 irons because they are forgiving but are also forged, so I like their feel.  If you like forged irons, then you should consider Bridgestone.  They are commonly regarded as one of the top three companies for forged irons, along with Mizuno and Srixon.  You can find a 6 iron pretty cheap on ebay in case you can't hit one locally.  I would be glad to answer any questions you may have.

      Never practiced golf when I was young and the only lesson ever taken was a driver lesson. I feel like I'm improving every year. However, the numbers don't support my feeling about improving. I usually drop to 12-13 during the summer while playing the familiar courses around home and then go on golf trips in the fall to new courses and increase to end the year between 15-17. Been a similar story for a number of years now but hey, it's the best thing there is in life so not too bothered but reaching 9.9 is the objective every year. Maybe a few lessons and practice could help me achieve it since I pretty much have no idea what I'm doing, just playing and never practice.

      I am semi-loyal. Usually buy four dozen of one ball and only play that until out and then determine whether to continue or try another one. Since starting my semi-loyal path to success, I've been playing the below, not in order: ProV1 ProV1x ProV1x left dash AVX Bridgestone BXS Srixon Z-star XV I am not sure if it has helped anything, but it gives a bit of confidence knowing that it at least is not the ball (while using the same one) that gives different results so one thing less to mind about I guess. On the level that I am, not sure whether it makes much difference but will continue since I have to play something so might as well go with the same ball for a number of rounds. Edit: favorite is probably the BXS followed by ProV1/Srixon Z-star XV. Haven't got any numbers to back it up but just by feel.

      Will not do it by myself, going to the pro shop I usually use after Cristmas for input and actually doing the changes, if any, but wanted to get some thoughts on whether this was worthwhile out of curiosity.

      In terms of ball striking, not really. Ball striking being how good you are at hitting the center of the clubface with the swing path you want and the loft you want to present at impact.  In terms of getting better launch conditions for the current swing you have, it is debatable.  It depends on how you swing and what your current launch conditions are at. These are fine tuning mechanisms not significant changes. They might not even be the correct fine tuning you need. I would go spend the $100 to $150 dollars in getting a club fitting over potentially wasting money on changes that ChatGPT gave you.  New grips are important. Yes, it can affect swing weight, but it is personal preference. Swing weight is just one component.  Overall weight effects the feel. The type of golf shaft effects the feel of the club in the swing. Swing weight effects the feel. You can add so much extra weight to get the swing weight correct and it will feel completely different because the total weight went up. Imagine swinging a 5lb stick versus a 15lb stick. They could be balanced the same (swing weight), but one will take substantially more effort to move.  I would almost say swing weight is an old school way of fitting clubs. Now, with launch monitors, you could just fit the golfer. You could have two golfers with the same swing speed that want completely different swing weight. It is just personal preference. You can only tell that by swinging a golf club.

      Thanks for the comments. I fully understand that these changes won't make any big difference compared to getting a flawless swing but looking to give myself the best chance of success at where I am and hopefully lessons will improve the swing along the way. Can these changes make minor improvements to ball striking and misses then that's fine. From what I understood about changing the grips, which is to avoid them slipping in warm and humid conditions, is that it will affect the swing weight since midsize are heavier than regular and so therefore adding weight to the club head would be required to avoid a change of feel in the club compared to before?
