I typically start with my 8 iron trying to hit push draws toward the 150yd flag watching the ball flight making adjustments until I'm happy with distance and curve. Then 5iron to 200yd flag, then 3 wood, finishing with driver. However, this weekend my tee time was at 0650 and it was nearly pitch black and cloudy when I got to the driving range at 0620. I could barely see the ball on the ground and certainly not the ball flight. Got out the 8 iron and just focused on internal feelings like slow full hip turn, extending at P4. I could tell I was hitting it great, but had no visual of ball flight curve or distance. When I got to the driver, the sun was out, and I could see I was hitting nice, slight draws. Ended up scoring one of my best rounds. Watching the ball flight certainly gives you lots of good information, but I might try focusing more on just internal swing feelings during the early warm up, instead of trying to hit an ideal ball flight with the first driving range swings.

I'd love to hear how more people warm up before their round.

I don't know that I have an effective routine yet. I usually swing at the ground a few times with any club to get my tempo in check. After that I hit in order a p-wedge, a 7-iron, a hybrid and then my 3 wood. Each a few times. My biggest problem is I usually run out of time and neglect to get some putting strokes in. That always hurts me.

There are reasons why sometimes the best warm-up sessions precede the worst rounds and vice versa.

You almost never seem to hit the ball on the course as you do on the range. When I warm up, I warm up and find a single thought to get through the day, and don't pay much attention to the ball flight. Stretch the muscles out, get them working. Then play.
