Player Holes Out from the Fairway for Walk-Off Win In Canada

Here's how you end a tournament: Sunday afternoon at the Canadian Tour Championship, Eugene Wong canned an eagle from the fairway to win by a single stroke.

Wong, a 21-year-old and the 2010 Jack Nicklaus Award winner as the NCAA's top player, trailed Joe Panzeri, 2011 International Rookie of the Year, by a stroke. He was sitting in the 18th fairway, 133 yards out, took out his nine-iron, and boom, dude makes it.

You see that scenario play out more often then not on the PGA Tour. Just this week Sergio was down by two and needed to hole out on 18 to force a playoff. Some dudes come close. I remember CHIII actually hitting the pin in an event, but I can't remember seeing nor hearing of the shot actually going in for the win. That's pretty cool!

Eugene Wong is a great player and one of our young Canadian up and comers who has a lot of promise.  If you watched the US Amateur, we have another Canadian up and comer named Albion Choi who is also very good and is friends with Eugene.

Nevertheless, this finish was huge.  I walked with Eugene during one of the practice rounds at the Canadian Open last month and he was a joy to watch.  Great swing.

He should've walked off right there. Not bothered to walk to the green. Just take a running jump from the edge of the fairway and be carried off by the 26 people who were there...
