There are 2 things that I wanted to get out of this thread. One, I wanted people to describe (in great detail) their ideal golf course. Consider all aspects of the course from layout, hole lengths, scenery, features, club house, staff, club house layout - the course in general. Pretend that money was not a factor and you had an unlimited budget to create your dream course. What would it look like? Are there streams and fescue lining each fairway? Are your Par 3s majestic little plateaus with a green going up hill with a raging (designed) river in front of the tee box?

If your home course is already your ideal course, simply list any changes you would make to it while describing the course itself.

Personally, my ideal course is one that is nestled into a very old and gigantic forest. No additional trees are cut out except to accommodate the tee, fairway and greens. These are massive, old, trees where 4 adults touching fists could not circle the base of these trees. There would be many streams and rivers meandering throughout the course and creating multiple "lay-up" fairway "pads". The club house would be a log cabin-esque layout similar to a hunting lodge in Montana. The staff would be primarily young, only to be able to have the speed to go above and beyond to make sure each and every golfer leaves with a smile. Being that money were no object, I would also recruit several Hooters waitresses to run my bar as well... that's a given!

On the flip side, I also dream of hitting the Powerball or Mega Millions so that I can build a course in the tropics and have special guests like Jimmy Buffet playing drinking tunes at the 19th with pig roasts and volleyball. Unlimited buckets of loaded coronas being passed around (shot of cuervo to top off the corona).

Hell, I'm 27 and easy to please... let's face it. Pretty girls, cold drinks and good music at "after parties" at the 19th and I'm all in!

Unfortunately, there are no courses similar to this in any way by me. Basically just your run of the mill plain and boring courses. I usually have to drive 20-30 miles to find something fresh and exciting.

I'd like 18 holes.

6 par 4s

6 par 3s

6 par 5s

This way, it's unique among courses and probably will have a weird yardage total. It also gives less of an emphasis on scrambling and I'd most likely make the holes play tough from off the fairway. That way good ballstrikers could really take advantage on all the par 3s without tons of length, but long hitters can score plenty of birdies on the par 5s if they keep it in play.

One of the par 4s could be a long par 3 if the player hits from the back tees, though it wouldn't be longer. One of the par 5s would similarly be a par 6 of around 700 yards when played from the back tees. It would give the back tees a bit of bite since you can't make them long enough anymore to prevent some joker from reaching in 2. I'd want some crazy bunkering, maybe a couple waste bunkers that are absolutely huge, or a narrow strip splitting an entire fairway.

And when you get to the end, there will be a final hole, #19. A simple flat green where if you make a 15 footer, you get a free pitcher of beer. Included in your greens fee, of course.

The carts will come with insulated mini kegs built in filled with only the finest on site brewed craft beer, and there would be actual food trucks instead of a cart girl or a snack bar, serving anything from pulled pork, seared bluefin tuna, dry aged steaks, deep fried cheesecake wontons, or fresh belgian waffles with a light chocolate drizzle. Also they'd have a full espresso bar in each truck as well as in the clubhouse.

The clubhouse would be a full blown brewpub with a full sports lounge as well as a restaurant area. There'd be live music, perhaps an open mic during the week. It would have an affordable membership, with required etiquette and rules courses. You'd get the option of meeting other players of your handicap, as well as a bimonthly free lesson from one of the pros. Free yardage books for members, of course, as well as some complimentary tees at a few holes.

The range would include grass hitting areas as well as an indoor facility. Stalls in the indoor facility would include a touchscreen monitor with high framerate video and a USB port to copy the videos to a thumb drive. Practice bunkers, practice greens, and practice cart paths of every description would be available. I'd have players get the option of hitting their own golf balls, or renting clean Bridgestone E5s for short game practice, with more durable balls being used only for the range. We'd have every decent training aid on hand so no one needs to waste their dough.

There'd be an iron byron set up at the end of the range if you feel it's your clubs, not you.

The parking lot would be fully netted in, as well. Oh, and a 15% discount for Sandtrap members.

The King and the Bear

Played there with a buddy of mine, I was so impressed with the level of customer service, the course layout, the quality of the course itself and they had 5 or 6 sets of tees for every level.  My buddy was scratch, so we had to play the tips, so it was a LONG day for me.  After we finished, he said something that stuck with me...."I love that course, I used every club in my bag, there was always a reasonable bailout, and you had to hit all the shots to score."  He shot something like par, I shot like a 100....and was in awe of the course.
