So why did Phil change back to his old Razr Hawk driver? I know he was using a Razr Fit earlier and now it's the razr hawk. Is it less loft? Set up for more distance? i am asking because I hit a Razr fit back in May and it just felt dead and didn't fly as far as other heads I tried. I also tried a Cleveland driver back in May and I was only flying it 260 when I was flying others 275 of same length on the range.

I actually do like the Razr Hawk beter last years and maybe Phil is using it for the same reason? I am looking to buy a Razr hawk tour 9.5 degree head because I want to use a HOF Patriot shaft in it.

A word of advice; don't do anything Phil Mickelson does involving the driver. The less you try to emulate him the better driver you'll be. Plus he's a known tinkerer, he plays some strange setups and usually changes at least something every couple weeks.

I agree, mostly because he is left handed (and what LW said too). Phil's Razr (any model) doesn't need to be adjustable because the guys in the trailer will do anything he wants.

Yeah, I just didn't know why. He may tinker but he never changes anything just to mix it up for fun, there aubviously has to be enough reason for it. I liked the last year Razr because it just goes farther for some reason than the new one when I tried them both, that is what I came up with. Maybe he is thinking the same we know he is all about hitting far.

It seemed to me that the razr hawk was a better players driver, lower spin head. The diablo line seemed more like a GI driver. The razr fit, though, is designed for the masses so I could see it being really forgiving. For hackers, that means it hits insanely high and that's not always good for high SS players like Phil. Unless he was playing some sort of TP version, I could see how he might hit the RH better.

I agree with the first half of this statement.  I have the Razr Fit and it definitely feels and sounds different ... just never seems like a solid strike no matter how well I hit it.

That said, I disagree with the second part, because although it feels "thuddy" (for lack of a better term) and sounds muted, it goes plenty far.  I have lost no distance - and gained plenty of accuracy - since switching from a 910 D3 in May ... so I will happily live with the sound/feel.

Does Callaway come out with a new driver every year? Will they likely come out with one for next year? I really don't care how adjustable it is, I could care less if you can adjust it in to a damn wedge. I am looking for a driver with the loft and shaft that could yeild me optimal carry distance while not being too hard to hit solid and have control of the club.

Cally will be coming out with a new driver this year, I think it will be called something like Razr Extreme and will be adjustable.  Look for a Jan or Feb release.  Irons seem to be on a two year cycle for most companies but with drivers some, Adams, TaylorMade and Callaway, have been introducing new models every year.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
