Friend has been Playing Golf for: 2 years

His current handicap index or average score is: 110 (but he shaves strokes!!)

His typical ball flight is: With a driver, ten yards in the air then strait down with hard left top spin.

The shot he hates or the "miss" he has trying to reduce/eliminate is: The grounder drives

Videos: Sorry for the bad video, it was hard to get a good angle at this range.

he is looking for some help, i dont even know what to tell him.

Just my amateur opinion, but I don't think you'll see many people disagree.

1)  Balance.

He has GOT to stay in balance.  He's spinning out at the end.  The reason is #2

2)  Stay centered

He's swaying back off the ball, moving his hips laterally, rather than turning.  This is letting the weight get onto the outside of his right foot.  Because the weight is on the outside of his right foot and he's swayed off the ball, he can't get back to to his left side, which would leave him the classic finish pose.  But since he can't get there, he just spins.  Any weight going onto the right foot in the backswing should be going onto the inside of the right foot.  The right foot is really just a support post for a strong left side.

He also may be standing a bit too tall.  Getting a tiny bit more flex in the knees and the butt out a bit more (bending from the hips) should help his balance.

3)  Overswing

He's swinging the club past parallel.  Doing so has absolutely no benefit and only makes it harder to get back to impact position correctly.

4)  Chicken wing

He's getting a chicken wing on the follow through (arms too close to the body).  He needs to work on full extension at and past impact.

A lesson would do him a lot of good.

One additional note:  One reason he's having a problem with chicken-wing is because he's letting his left arm bend badly at the top.  He doesn't get it straightened out by the time he gets to the bottom and thus, comes through the ball with his arms bent.

Look at Luke Donald's position at the top for an example of what your friend should be trying to do:

    • Day 329 - More full swings, focusing on the finish. Started with half swings, finished with full swings.
    • Day 146: mirror work again. Working on the same backswing stuff.
    • Didn’t get back to a decent routine in November and December as planned.  I really need to get up earlier and get to the 7 am CrossFit class… but I’m too tired. Right now getting in 3 times a week. Going to get some swing speed exercises in too.  January-April should be Monday - Friday, load up on supplements too.
    • “The stuff legends are made of…” 😁 As long as OEM’s keep replacing them…. But if it cracks 2 years in, you’re screwed on the warranty. the Cobra Dark Speed driver gets rave reviews.  Haven’t heard of breakage issues.  Taylormade now came out with the Qi35 heads.  Absolutely stunning but it’s a carbon fiber sole as well as the face and crown.  I guess we’ll see.
    • Day 71 - 2024-12-10 I spent three minutes trying to figure out when someone started calling me Yoda, even though he remains the only person to call me Yoda… then in a hotel room, I spent ten minutes while watching the 2019 Masters on YouTube (the TV doesn't have Golf Channel) working on my wrist conditions.
