Couple of tour wins 5 or 6 years ago, in events that usually have strong fields, but not much since.

Euan Murray on Sky thinks (or thought) he was the second coming but that was purely because they were both Scottish.

interesting tournament so far with Luke and Rory 3 ahead of Schwartzel and Oosthuizen...Sergio has been very up and down sandwiching a course record 64 with a pair of 73s.  He was -7 in the second round thru 11 then went bogey, bogey, eagle, birdie, triple, birdie, eagle...not often you see a course record with 2 bogies and a triple.

I've been watching on TV and am truly impressed with the short game of both the leaders. I watched many players miss putts of 10 ft or chunk chip shots or overshoot out of the sand, but not Luke or Rory.  And Luke, no bogies after 100 holes on this course, incredible.  But, lucky for all the rough is easy to play and the trees short. Should be a good watch Sunday pm.  One thing i also notice is not one local person in the gallery.  Dubai is the middle east, an Arab state,  but everyone in attendance is very white skinned and european dressed.

I lived in Abu Dhabi Emirate for a number of years ... one would forget they were in the Arab Peninsula when they went to Dubai.

I notice most of the houses around the course are still unfinished.

Wow ... when I left there 3 and a half years ago they were hyping the first Road to Dubai and the course was under construction. They must've finished it just in time, but I'm a bit surprised the basic amenities were never completed.

Exciting finish!

Justin Rose turned it on ... and then...

But do you want your Tour Championship to be a birdie fest? It was exciting, or as the commentators stated, "dramatic."

Yep. just come back from there.  Still a building site, have been told some places will be ready this year but no idea re club house opening...

Shame really, as there are some great "finished" courses in Dubai.  That said, all four days were free and facilities were pretty good as well.  Nice to go to a great sporting event with our feeling ripped off - don't even have to pay to park and no queues.

Sure, if it separates the good golf from the not quite as good...seems like some of the strongest players did the best...a guy like Luke Donald only made two bogies all week, but Sergio managed to make a triple, two doubles and 6 bogies to go along with 4 eagles and 19 birdies.

You're pointing out the yin and yang of that tourney. :-)

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
