Hello everyone @ TST

Our club has a weekly Saturday morning organized game which is played

from April 1st through September 30th.

We keep the total earnings though the season and award top honors

to be Captains for the end of the year final event,

a Ryder Cup Match the first Saturday of October.

It is very popular and builds camaraderie among members.

The game is suited for golfers of all abilities and participation has over 1K rounds per season.

The game which we play is a "2 man team - blind partner draw with gross and net skins"

Our efforts to keep interest and add variety on occasion,

we select to use a different format through the season, such as the Stableford competition.

So my question is, does anyone have suggestions for a suitable game for a large field of players?

Thanks, Club Rat

I used to belong to a club that had a weekly game for members. They played on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday. Anyone could play as long as they had a handicap or had someone that played regularly vouch for them. Entry was $12. The money was split 6 ways. Points and best ball front, back and overall. Bogeys-1 pt, pars-2 pts, birdies-4 pts, eagles 6 pts. The top 3 scores on each hole were used for points. That way if an odd number of players showed up everyone could still play.

Teams were foursomes split by hdcp. For 24 players there were 6 teams. They would fill the teams starting with the lowest hdcp on team 1, next lowest on team 2 and so on to team 6. They were the "A" players. The "B" player with the lowest hdcp would be put on team 6, the next on team 5 and so on back to team 1. The lowest "C" player on team 1 going to highest on team 6. Lowest "D" player on team 6 with the highest on team 1.

I hope that made sense. It basically went like this:

Lowest A ------------> Highest A

Highest B <----------- Lowest B

Lowest C --------------> Highest C

Highest D <------------ Lowest D

I am currently playing in a group that plays every Sunday. In the Charlotte area there is a group of 7 courses that make up the Carolina Trail. Everyone but me is a member of the Trail so they play a different course each week. One of my friends invited me to play one week and was then invited to play on a regular basis. We have two foursomes that play best ball against each other where only the top two scores each hole count. The foursomes are mixed up each week to give everyone a chance to play with each other. Everyone's handicap are fairly close (4-10) where the teams are pretty equal. We put up $20 each and split it up $5 best ball front, back and overall. The other $5 goes towards skins.

    • Day 353: mirror work again today. Working on the same stuff - wrist twist and shaft lean.
    • This is my second year playing golf, I started last season but have always struggled with a slice. I've tried multiple things to try and fix the slice: Closing the face. Rotating my right hand out or clockwise in the grip. Keeping the club head low in my back swing. Focusing on a straight swing path. Trying the straighter arms like Bryson D. (as seen in the videos above) Trying to not let me hips get too far ahead of my down swing. Trying to keep my shoulders down until after I've made contact with the ball. Etc. I recently changed to the straighter arms which has helped me adjust away from such a drastic slice. So it has helped a bit. Before that, I was trying to keep the club head low in the back swing and this was the most helpful in correcting the slice, however it drastically removed power and distance in the strikes and would even sometimes result in a hook. About a couple months ago I had a single lesson with my driver and learned some helpful things, but have since struggled to perform what I learned well. One of the things in the lesson was to keep my shoulder down more in the the down swing until after making contact with the ball. This would help the slice a bit, sometimes drawing the ball. To even it out, I was instructed to rotate my hips a bit earlier in the down swing. What I have noticed however with the earlier hip rotation is that it's really hurting my lower back a lot. Since backing off on that it's helped not injure my low back as much. I believe my main issue might possibly be the swing path, being a Pull Slice.   See above, was mid typing when you posted. I have never watched Moe Norman's swing to be honest. I have never measure my hip rotation, but I'd like to hear your thoughts on that after you read about my hip rotation / back pain issue.
    • Two questions… Are you trying to swing like Moe Norman? What's your hip turn like? Have you ever measured it?
    • I've been Playing Golf for: 2 years My current handicap index or average score is: 18 Index My typical ball flight is: Slice/Fade with a driver and FW. Generally straight with irons, varies some days left or right. The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: Driver slice. Videos:
    • What are the best drills to practice awareness for club face control? This one came to mind after remembering a bit from the latest release of the podcast. I also think that I have poor club face to path awareness.
