ClubCorp ONE program. Anyone got any experience with this?

I'm joining my local club today, and they are part of the ClubCorp family.  I'm trying to decide on whether or not to pay the extra $50 a month for the ONE membership.  I don't travel a ton, but there are clubs in those places where I'd get some benefits (free greens fees, two free meals a month per club), and we would also get 50% off a la carte dining, not including booze.

Anyone have any experience with this?  The fine print in the brochure says something like "not guaranteed that all clubs participate, please call first" kind of thing.

I do not know much about Clubcorp, but I will tell you that whenever I have had *free* greens fees coupons elsewhere, it was always a non-walking course and the cart fee was always the same as the regular rate anyway.

You would hope, with how the golf industry is in Florida right now, that it is a real deal - hopefully you did not sign a contract and can test it month to month.

I'm not obligated to any period of time, and can "downgrade" with 30 days notice.  From what I understand, the exact benefits that each course provides are listed on the main corporate web site (some offer just greens fees, other offer both greens fees AND rental clubs).  Tee times at these clubs are also done on the web site which is pretty nice.  I think I did read that carts are not included but are required, so there is a fee involved.  But shoot, it aint bad to be able to get on decent (and in many cases private, some are daily fee though) course away from home, not have to lug clubs around if you don't want, etc.

My first true test will probably come in a couple months when the wife and I are headed out to Phoenix for a week.  I've read on the site that Seven Canyons in Sedona does the free greens fees and Taylor Made Burner rentals comp'd as well.  We shall see...

without a year commitment, anything is worth a try - like i said before, free greens fees has been a scam in my book (a $40 cart fee is ridiculous.) Something tells me if you can go month to month that it is definteily worth checking out.

I saw Feathersound in Clearwater as a place you can play - definitely worth it if you get down in that area - as a sister club I pay $35 off peak and $55 peak - if you get anything close to that, it is worth the trip.

:-) We joined the program several years ago and have found it to be of value. When vacation traveling we have taken advantage of fine dining as well as play at exclusive courses for cart fee only. The program is best where you live in areas near several participation clubs with or without dining facilities. Join it, you will probably find that you like it, if not, you can always resign. I'm a member at a ClubCorp club in Los Angeles, and I'm pretty happy with the ONE program (though I probably don't use it as much as I should).  I take advantage of it whenever I'm in Palm Springs and play both of the ClubCorp courses (Mission Hills and Indian Wells CC).  I've also use it to play a fantastic course in south OC.  Would love to make it out to play Firestone, though haven't been able to find an excuse to go to Ohio.  Guess it depends on how much you travel.

They just started this at my club near Pittsburgh. My wife and I think that it's a no-brainer to do it as it stands now. It's $60 for us and replaces what ClubCorp calls Singature Gold (the package for traveling) and something called the Pittsburgh Society which gave us a 2 for 1 dinner once per month and some perks at other dining places. Our only thinking is that they might slowly raise prices to make it less of a deal for the 50% off dining. Our club had a bad reputation for food until they hired a new chef late last year. He's awesome and the food is much better. However overall we could eat better food for less money almost anywhere else within 20-30 minutes of the club. So we see this as a way to get more people eating at the club. A number of people have told me that they used to meet at the club for a drink ano then go somewhere else to eat. The golf perks are worth it alone though. One thing about the pricing. Funny story. There is another ClubCorp club in our area and we play matches against them every year. I played last year and a very successful trial attorney from the other club had us laughing at the prices. He paid $3.50 for a diet coke and 3.50 for a small bag of chips. Can of soda is $1.50 at his club and the chips are $1. He kept making jokes about it, but it really does highlight that a deal at one club may be different at another. So try it and see. But add up the savings and see if it's worth it.
