I've been Playing Golf for: 2 months

My current handicap index or average score is: 3 rounds only, 66 over, 52 over (18 holes, standard courses) and latest one is 15 over (9 holes, all par 3)

My typical ball flight is: mid height misses are mostly fades or slices, hooks are rare

The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: Consistency problem, I may hit 10 times in a row with a perfect straight trajectory that goes 210-220 yards carry today, but tomorrow I may spray the balls all over the range. The swings are from a "in-between" day, some shots ok, lot of them bads, I can't find the solid feeling with the driver today.

I like your swing. Of course, there are a lot of things that people can (and will) point out. Especially those who tend to espouse a more controlled, mechanical swing. Your swing is free and natural right now.

Since you've only been playing two months, and you seem young, I suggest you avoid over-thinking the swing for now. Instead, go out and play a lot more, work on your short game. Learn to pitch and putt. Focus on basics only - setup, alignment, posture and grip. If you want, go to a good pro and tell him you want to focus on basics only right now (that's all a good pro will show you when you've been playing only 2 months).

Then swing freely. You'll have plenty of time to become obsessed with the swing in the future.

I think your swing is very good for the length of time youve been playing.  I would second what chspeed has said.  One thing I regret was neglecting my short game for the first year or so of my golf career.

Skill acquisition in golf is something I have thought a lot about and personally, I feel that by learning the short game first, sets you up nicely for everything else.  If you can strike a pitch well for example, you will probably be able to extend your swing easier to the full swing.  A lot of drills when learning a skill are broken down into half swings or 3/4 swings, so why not start learning golf from this point rather than the full swing first off.

So basically, what I am saying, is work on your short game (inside 100yards) for a time.  This encourages good tempo and reasonably good swing mechanics.

However, if you do want to smash driver, what I would say is try and keep your back foot (right foot) planted to the ground for longer. Look at Rory McIroy's back foot here.

Great advices, thank you very much. I really need to work on my short game more. I don't have much problems from 80-180 yards, I mean for a recreational golfer like me, but shorter or further than that are really really bad, I can tee off with my 4 hybrid until I have great confidence in the driver but I can't just struggle with my wedges forever :D

But your inputs are really all welcome, they will help me correct my swings for other clubs, too.

Hello again, it's been a while since I decided to learn how to properly swing a golf club, and this is currently where I'm at:

My current handicap index or average score is: 24 (I use oobgolf.com, not sure how they calculate my handicap index)

My typical ball flight is: mid launch, start right then curve left, if everything is synced up, I hit slight draw all day, but...

The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: blocks and hooks, my friends are telling me that I'm swinging way too flat and I'm working on steepen up my swing.

From the video I think I'm moving my head too much toward the target at the start of the downswing, what do you think?

PS: I'm trying to get my hands more ahead of the ball, but I usually hit a block fade doing that (can't square the clubhead properly)

Not really, I would recommend implementing this feel.  Left leg straightens too soon

Also turn both feet out at address, will help get the weight more forward at impact.

Looking good. Great shaft lean at impact, maybe try strengthing your grip to square it up at impact. The only other thing I suggest is to stay on the ball. If you go to 7 seconds in the last video, you can see your head is moving up at the target as your still a foot from the ball. This will always create inconsistency. Keep at it, looks great.

    • Day 9: 2026.01.11 Hit some balls at the range, concentrating on weight distribution at address, got some on film.
    • Day 468 - 2026-01-11 Loooooong day. Did some work in the patio door (as a mirror) when I got home.
    • I caught a video on this driver; the face tech seems crazy. Looking at the heat map for ball speed, hitting it basically anywhere on the face only loses a few percent ball speed. The surprising and counter intuitive part to me was that for flat faced clubs, ball speed loss is directly proportional to distance loss. For clubs with bulge and roll this is apparently not true. The surprising part of that story being that the max distance potential looks to be a tiny pee sized area for this driver, and I feel in general for drivers. The counter intuitive part being (the myth?) that blade irons have a pee sized sweet spot and missing that tiny spot causes dramatic losses. And that modern drivers, maybe 2017 on, have massive sweet spots and are ultra forgiving. Where in reality, if this heat map data is valid and reliable, it might be a bit of the opposite. This insane tech driver appears to have a pea sized "sweet spot" while Mizuno Pro 241 irons are 28% more forgiving compared to the average of all clubs measured. Not compared to other players irons, compared to all clubs from all categories, players to SGI! The Pro 241 being essentially just a solid chunk of metal with no "tech" at all. Which for me devolves into a whole mess of what is forgiveness really? And in measurable and quantifiable results how many yards, or feet, does that translate into?
