Hey Guys

So here's the swing, I've been working tirelessly at it. The main focus has been to make consistent contact, and let everything else take care of itself.

I've been Playing Golf for: Rookie

My current handicap index or average score is: Bad

My typical ball flight is: High draw

The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: Fatty's

Hey 3putter,

Here's what I think I can glean from the video. Granted, I'd like to see a perpendicular angle as well...

The address and takeaway looks very fundamentally sound, but you seem a little stiff over the ball. I'd advise just loosening up a little / don't be RIGID over the ball.

Position at the top looks very good.

Your downswing is where I'm seeing a minor swing plane issue. It looks to me like as you start down, you bring the club INSIDE as you approach the ball. This is likely what's causing your draw, as well as those mishits behind the ball, catching it "fat".

I'd say from the top, try to generate a feeling of swinging OUT toward the pin, rather than straight down the line. You may even need to think of swinging a little bit to the right of your intended target, which will be counteracted by your hands closing through the impact zone.

Other than that, the swing looks pretty solid, man!

(Granted, this is my first post on this forum so feel free not to take my advice too seriously! )

From that video it's hard to tell, but it looks like you are dipping would be why you hit it fat. If you can pause it at impact look at your shoulders and how low your right shoulder looks. As I stated above its hard to tell from that video, but that's my 2 cents.

Dipping use to be an issue for me as I would initiate my downswing with my arms, and "go after the ball". I've been gradually rolling more towards a rather fluid motion. This particular swing was pure, at least when judged by the trajectory and distance, it was a 6i that landed just pass the 185 yd sign. (I was just testing out my new protosports holster, and I thought I grabbed a 9i. So my eyes got really wide when I saw it land pass 185...I kept looking to confirm the yardage marker.)

Thanks for the analysis, that rigidity is actually better now, trust me. I was the original stiff.

Unless it really starts to affect my game, I would like to keep the high draw as my shot shape. It seems to work out just well for now.

I'm confused on why you would post a video of a pured shot and ask us to critique it. If you hit your 6i 185 yds with that swing then my suggestion is don't change that swing. I don't believe there is a swing out there that's perfect for everybody. That's why when I golf with a new golfer is I watch their natural swing and just give a few small adjustments here or there.

If only I knew I was gonna hit that one pure, this was my first swing of the day trying out the new holster. I've always wanted to start this thread for analysis by anyone, this just happened to be the first one. It's 40 and sunny today, finally, So I'll be at the range with a variety of videos that will NOT be pure.

I'm sorry I couldn't really get a face on angle.

Miss : I get stuck occasionally and end up pushing it right. I notice that it happens with the woods when I feel like I'm extended in my setup. It happens with the irons when my timing just isn't right. I also deal with the fatties, not as pronounced as before, but it's more visible in the 1X video. I'll try and get a better angle video soon

The bottom video is the 1X version

Gradually working my way to a somewhat neutral grip. Observations are definitely welcomed.

The shots were mostly on target, lost a few to either side of the green but nothing outrageous.

I notice that at impact I'm partially on my toes on the left foot, I'm striking the ball ok doing that for now, but I'll let the pros tell me what the potential downside of that move might be

@3putter

I had this issue early on.  What corrected it for me is part of Key #1, Steady Head.  On the back swing, try to feel like your right side is stretching to push your right shoulder up higher.  It is explained in this video for steady head.  Work on it in slow motion.

Thanks. That is something I'm continuously working on, It has plagued me on putts especially.

I enjoyed the sound track.

Thanks, it's called warm shadow (Remix by Dactyl). It's on the original soundtrack for Walking Dead, and one of my favorite tunes. It's like a group of really good musicians just jamming out effortlessly.

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.

    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
