I've had a really sore left hip lately (arthritis in lower spine) but it is just barely well enough to still play (OK, I'm stupid and play with the pain).  But I have noticed that with the sore hip I don't make a good weight shift and I am hooking or drawing the ball a lot more than "normal".  My typical flight is a slight draw, but now I am hitting an outright hook.  Am I correct in thinking that the lack of weight shift onto the sore hip is causing my arms to get ahead of my body and THAT is causing the hook?  It seems like it is the opposite of getting "stuck".

In some strange way I think that while this is a real pain, it is causing me to think my way around the course because I have to play lines that make the hook viable.  But I am still looking forward to the hip getting better (cortisone shots - got one have another coming) and resuming my "normal" game.

But then again, what the hell do I know?

If you are swaying back or hitting with more than 50% of your weight on your back foor (right foot for a right-handed golfer), yes, that can easily translate into some hooks and some really ugly hooks.

Also, if you have the pain and you are basically not rotating your belt buckle toward the target...you will end up flipping the club shut and that would hook the ball.

I admire your focus - the notion that you know you have to think more carefully about how you are going to play your shots with the pain.  Hope you get some relief.  Golf is hard enough without having to to deal with sharp physical pain.

The upside is that the physical pain can distract you from the emotional pain of the game.
