Its been a while since i last posted but i am going to be a more active poster this season. Im on the market for a new iron set i have between 400 to 600 dollars to spend. Ive been playin maltby for the past 2-3 yrs they are beat up. My swing speed is about 110 - 115 with driver about 85-90 with irons (i dunno if this helps). I was set on getting callaway razr x ( stiff shafts ) but im having a hard time finding last yrs model . The pro at dicks is trying to talk to me about taylor made burner 2.0 stiff. Im new to the new technology of golf im not sure which brand or brands are good . Any suggestions on current selection or other selection of golf irons . Thanks for the help

Irons generally last longer than 2-3 years.  So I am not certain why your maltby clubs are beat up.  That being said.  With the budget you have, I suggest looking at Ping's last years model (G20) most decent golf shops will give you a free fitting and the Pings will be fitted to you.  In addition Ping tends to have a better resale value.

Generally speaking every manufacturer makes a quality set of clubs that will last year a good long time.  If you are set on having an off the rack set and want to get last years model, consider online at places like TGW, rock bottom golf, and ebay.  All are generally easy places to find a solid deal for what you are looking for.

Best of luck in your search

In my bag:

some golf clubs

a few golf balls

a bag of tee's some already broken the rest soon to be

a snickers wrapper (if you have seen me play, you would know you are not going anywhere for a while)

and an empty bottle of water

Pings are damn near friggin indestructable on top of the previously mentioned reasons with the exception of maybe the Ansers. They are awesome at customer service as well.

I have a set of G2 irons that I bought brand new when they were released (2004 I believe?). I play about 50 rounds a year, and they still look like new.

    • By today’s standards that’s certainly true, but they weren’t having any trouble hitting golf balls in 2005 so I’ve equipped myself with what was among the very best equipment around that time for a very reasonable investment. If I get to the point where I feel like I’ve outgrown that stuff, I’ll reward myself with something more current. But for now I don’t need adjustable loft and lie and modern head shape, just a good quality, proven club with a clean club face. For now I’m going to concentrate on the basics. I know you can get more yardage with newer woods, but I don’t care about distance nearly as much as consistency, and you can’t buy that for any price.

    • Because you're twisting it to hold it open. Forearms, etc. shouldn't be all that tense at setup.
