I didn't play much the last two years, and I dropped from a 12 to a 20. I'm hitting a 15 year old set of Wilson's, and my wife has given me the green light to buy a new set. I like the Rocketbladez, but I'm wondering if there is a better set for someone like me who will be spending a lot of time getting back to the basics this year.

I suggest before buying anything you try the PING G25 irons. I am reviewing them now and I am really impressed.

Are g25 using the titanium insert on the face like the k15? It seems to make sense to move the weight out to the edges.

Taking the above advice may lead to destruction of your golf game. Laughing at it may reduce stress.

Yes there is.  I would look seriously at a set of clubs that came out in 2011 or 2012 and cost a lot less than the Rocketbladz. Being a  Callaway guy, I would consider the Razr x HLs if you want a super game improvement set with a lot of easier to hit hybrids or the Razr X Blacks that are game improvement irons. The Blacks  have a great feel and still allow for a lot of shot shaping. Either set with steel shafts has a great price tag right now. For fairway woods, the Diablo Edge Tours or Diablo Octanes  and Octane Tours are all priced really well and are good woods to revitalize your game.  You can tell by my sig that I am pretty sold on the Diablos and Razr X hybirds.. I don't own a recent set of Callaway irons because I love my golds. I may replace them with X-Hots with graphite shafts next year after the price comes down a bit.

I think that either of  those two sets of clubs will still feel comfy as your game improves.

In my  bag:

Driver, Callaway Diablo Edge Tour 9.5 stiff

3, 5 woods: Callaway Diablo Edge Tour 15,18 degrees Stiff

2 hybrid: Callaway Diable Edge Tour 18 degrees R (out when the 5 wood is in)

3,6 hybrids: Callaway Diablo Edge 21 S and 30 degrees R

4,5 hybrids: Callaway Razr X HL 24 and 27 degrees Stiff

7-AW irons: Callaway Razr HL graphite R shafts

SW 54 Callaway X Series Jaws CC Slate Fujikura Graphite Stiff

Putter: Odessey White Ice 1 Blade Putter.

Ball...looking for any ball that hates water, sand, long grass, and getting lost in the woods.

I can't find any, so forced to use ones that seem to love all the above.

Thanks, the pro seemed to really like the X Hots.  I haven't had a chance to hit them yet, and I'm trying to find a Callaway demo day near me so I can try some of their clubs out.  I need my clubs 1.5" taller, so it's difficult to just walk into the shop and swing any clubs I want.

    • Yes. If you choose to take the ball out of the bunker instead of taking maximum available relief… it costs a stroke.
    • I got another one today....Number 17. Par 5 that has water left and right on the layup. I smacked a drive down the left side and got a little lazy on the layup and fanned my 6 iron. With 112 to a crowned green I got it to 3 feet and birdie!  Only 5 and 15 is left for this year!
    • Maybe I didn’t explain this properly. Back and front can be confusing.  There was no place in the bunker that didn’t have 2-3 inches of rain water in it, except for a small spot on the slope nearest the pin. If I had dropped there I would be moving 6-7 feet closer to the hole. Since my ball was just inside the bunker, farthest side from the hole, I dropped one club length backward, which brought me out of the bunker. I could not have hit from that deep of water. Are you saying I would have had to take a penalty stroke due to rain water?
    • Day 550, May 5, 2024 Got a good hour in with a typical (for me) two-stick setup: pool noodle angled in front, yardstick on the ground angled 45° behind me.
    • Day 130: Cinco de Mayo Day 7/24 of Full Speed Spectrum training. Difficult training day after struggling to certify my warmup yesterday, and today. Finished 13 mph lower than my training speed on Thursday. Hope to hit some balls today.
