A little background...I played golf for fun in middle school and high school but upon getting to college gave it up for other "activities" haha. I was never particularly good so I am probably back at square one at this point. I am now looking to get back into it since I am graduating this spring and am in the process of building a bag.

Trying to keep it under $1000 and build a bag I can grow into. What I have picked out so far...not purchased but pretty sure this is what I want.

Rocketballz Irons 2012 4-PW & AW: $450

R-11s TP Driver: $260

Rocketballz 3 Wood 15*: $160

What do you guys think and what do you think I should add to complete the bag? Obviously need a putter but anything else?

56 degree sand wedge(I am a big fan of mine below) and a 5 wood. Or you could go with a 3 Hybrid, but probably the 5W.

i would recommend a hybrid/utility wood in the 19-21 degree range. something that you can hit around 200-220 if your irons are not there. also another wedge (depending upon what degree your 'AW' is)

as far as putters go, i think its crucial to get a style/type that you are comfortable and put well with. there is basically no technology in putters so get something you put well with. you can go to Dicks or Sports authority and putt around all day sampling the different styles.

Think I am going to end up going with...a lot of Rocketballz. Hope I don't look too much like a tool.

Rocketballz Driver 10.5*

Rocketballz 3W 15*

Rocketballz Iron Combo 3H, 4H, 5-PW

Odyssey White Ice #3 Putter

I will fill in the wedges when I get the PW down.

Thanks for the responses! I think I will be glad I switched to the 3H, 4H

I don't know if I want to give advice to a knicks fan... Go WARRIORS! But since you are around a 20 handicap I would not reccomend a 3wd. Try a 4wd, it will be a lot easier to get it up in the air and will most likely go further for you. The rocketballz 3wd was already low launching and a 4wd would just help a little. Other than that all I would add would be a sandwedge. If you like the feel of the rocketballz you can get a rocketballz sandwedge also. Good luck getting back into the game.

In my bag

R9 TP 8.5* Voodoo XStiff shaft

RBZ Stage 2 3wd 14.5* diamana kaili XStiff

Adams Idea black hybrid 18* Project X 6.5

Ping I20's 4-P KBS Tour XStiff

Vokey SM4 49*, 59*

Older Vokey 54*

Thanks for the advice...even though I'm a knicks fan haha. Injuries are killing us this year so you don't have much to worry about!

I will look into the 4 wood. Placing my order now. The handicap was just a number I put in to get past the page. I really have no idea what it is but I am sure it is up there haha.

Great choice of irons, and the RBZ 3 wood is awesome, but I'm not sure someone of a 20 handicap needs a TP driver...

But anyway, the setup I would go for (and the one I use)  is,  driver, 3 wood, 3 hybrid, 4-aw irons, 54 degree wedge, 58 degree wedge, and putter.

Driver: :tmade: Burner '08 10.5* 3 wood: :tmade: Rocketballz 15* 3 hybrid: :tmade: Burner Superlaunch 18* 4 hybrid: :tmade: Rescue 11 21* Irons: :tmade: Burner 1.0 5-AW Wedges: :vokey: Spin Milled 54* :cleve: CG16 58* Putter: :odyssey: 2 Ball Blade Grips: Golf Pride VDR white Balls: :titleist: Velocity Bag: :tmade: Audi bag

    • Has anyone played around with "My Strategy?"  It seems they've revamped it -- I remember not liking the interface a while ago.  Today I went over a course I play semi-often and was able to designate a tee box for each hole, then choose a a club and target direction and it put my scatter pattern for that club off the tee, showing average SG for fairway / rough / bunker (if appropriate) / green.  I could change the club and see how another behaved.  It wasn't clear to me what I can gain from this, or where the follow-up shot supposedly originates, but it is neat to look at it on a map. What motivated me is that I'm debating taking less than driver on one of the par-4s next time I play this course, probably 4-Wood.  I have found myself, sometimes off of a good tee shot, playing my second shot from the tree line, as the fairway slopes strong left to right.  I don't think I've even had a near-GIR on that hole in 2026 (6 rounds at this course), and it's my second-worst strokes-gained hole, playing to an average of 5.3 for me -- the only worse is a hole where I've hit an O.B. en route to a bogey and also managed a triple bogey another round. Scattering my 4W pattern off that tee shows a higher strokes gained, but then again, hitting that club is far from a guarantee I won't fade it a bit and roll into the tree line, now further back from the green.  And I haven't hit a bunted driver in a while, maybe I need to practice that shot, but that isn't something this feature can show (since it doesn't know why my tee shots ended up where they did).  Then again, it might not know where I was aiming for my tee shots either. On a related note, I am finding their course analysis tool interesting, especially when I can sort by strokes gained average and also determine which hole(s) I'm playing to what stroke average.  Interesting that the #2 and #4 handicap I'm averaging under bogey, while 5-6-7 and 12 handicap holes I'm averaging over bogey.  The hole I described a moment ago is the #12 handicap.
    • Day 28, June 1.  Went to a course near me while running errands to practice putting.  I wanted to chip also but their chipping green was closed. I did my 4' and 6' drills (around the clock, but with the goal of making each putt twice, for a total of 24 from each station).  On the 4' putts, I took a total of 32 putts to sink all 24.  I'm very happy with the 75% make rate (scratch one-putt at that distance is 80%, bogey 65%). For the 6' putts, I took a total of 52 putts, for a 46% make rate (scratch: 55%, bogey 39%).  That's an improvement I'm happy with, and I'm aiming to do this drill once a week for a while, now that my putting (over the past five rounds) is better than the 10 hcp baseline (I'm a 10.7? 10 point something as I type this), which is far better than 6-7 months ago when I was losing strokes to the 25 handicap baseline (I really should write up what I did to improve over this time).  Amazingly, on the 6', there was one putt (approximately coming from 10:00) that I didn't sink at all in 4-5 passes and then was the only coin remaining, and it was face up.  I could've sworn it would break right, and I kept missing it left, and when I finally aimed straight in, I made two in a row.  Maybe it was one of those rare (?) double-breaker 6' putts.
    • This is feeling like the club is at P2. To get lower launch angles I have to feel like I’m dragging my hands through impact just delofting the crap out of the club.  This is trying to stop at P2.5. The consistency in launch angle gets worse. Contact gets worse.   trying to go P3, things get more volatile. The more I increase my swing length the more I can’t lower the dynamic loft.  Edit: these are with my 56 degree.
