Hello Everyone,

I've been lurking on this website for several months and decided it's time to take it a step further and join.  I think i'll be in good company as it seems like most people here have the same obsession with golf that I now have.

I live in Lake Forest, CA and i'm 31 years old.  My dad taught me to play this wonderful game when i was about 9-10 years old.  I just played casually, maybe 1 round/month, my whole life in between full seasons of baseball, soccer, and tennis.  However, now that i've gotten older and competitive soccer and baseball are well behind me, i've taken on a whole new focus with golf.

About 2 years ago when i started getting serious i was shooting in the mid 90's with occasional rounds creeping close to 90 and some much higher.  I was playing with an old set of Cobra Oversize Tour irons from I think 1994, with graphite shafts.  It wasn't until I got serious 2 years ago and started getting deeper into golf knowledge that I realized that those clubs were definitely not helping my game.  At that point I did some research, and some testing at my local Golfsmith, and fell in love with the Mizuno JPX 800's with the DGS 300 Stiff shafts.  Since then, along with 4 lessons from a local PGA professional, my handicap has dropped from around 18-19 ( Wasn't actually keeping track officially) to 8.5 (Actually keeping official track on scga.org).

So i'm pretty stoked now and a lot more involved with golf now.  It's sort of all consuming and i'm sure like most of you, always on your mind.  That's pretty much why I decided to join the ranks, to talk with other serious golfers and expand my limited knowledge.

Cheers,

Scott

I definitely would, but I will be out of town Sunday.  I'm headed down to the Stone Brewery in Escondido for their Oakquinox beer festival.

I would be interested another time.  Btw, what course you guys playing?

Scott welcome!  Good to see more Socal golfers on here.  There are quite a few of us here in Socal (Orange County) that try and get together on a regular basis to play.  If you are interested in joining up with us to play, let me know.

Thank you, and btw i'm a huge Packer fan!

Welcome, and great to see you are a Packer fan. How did you get to like the Packers when you live in SoCal?

My mother was born and raised in La Crosse, WI.  Her and my dad eventually moved to Southern California and raised me and my brother.  When I was 13, my dad had a job opportunity out in the twin cities, so we moved just across the border in Wisconsin.  That's when I started getting into football and became a fan of the Packers.  We eventually moved back out here 3 years later and I've just been a fan ever since.

    • Day 47: simulator day! Played St. Andrew’s and shot a +1. Not bad, especially with having to putt at this simulator set up. Had about 5 minutes at the end to work on some feels as well.
    • I think you're saying it's preposterous to think that the areas on this club are anything like what's shown here: 30mm toward the toe or heel loses only 5% distance? Highly, highly doubtful. So a guy who hits the ball there and normally hits the ball about 250… will hit it instead about 238. By missing the sweet spot by about 1.2 inches? Highly, highly doubtful. Heck, the high heel barely gets into the red, and orange is only "up to" 10%! @M2R, I've never heard of "Ask Golf Nut" but I'm dubious of his claims in the video and really, really dubious of what's on his site: "Why AskGolfNut Is the Most Trusted Data-Driven Golf Resource". Hmmmmmm.
