Hi, I am a 7 handicapper, I have a swing speed ranging between 100 and 110 mph, last season I hit an 8 iron to 150 but this year something has changed. I hit very high iron shots and get a high spin rate in my driver, last season it wasn't the case therefore know its not the clubs/ shafts or loft. I've tried different ball positions but nothing seems to work, can anyone help?

I think it is because you are probably bottoming the swing out to soon, like an inch after the ball instead of 2-4. This is something i'm working on... yesterday i hit an 8 iron like 170 (there must have been some wind gust above the trees that grabbed it. I hit it so high). If you are hitting the ball square and it goes super high, then make sure you are not stopping your hands to release the club... continue moving your hands/arms forward. the club will release. But make sure you don't stop your hands... if they stop just a little after the ball, then you will hit it solid, but sky it.

Driver: 10.5* callaway Razr Hawk Tour - 350 yards(usually into the wind, it can be windy here. at least 400 with a little wind behind me)

Hybrids: 2 and 3 callaway Hybrid razr tour (312 and 287 respectively)

Irons: 3i-10i callaway forged standard length(278, 263, 250, 235, 221, 213, 201, 190)

Wedges: callaway jaws cc 52* 12 approach, 56* 16 sand, 60* 13 lob (0-185)

Odyssey Black tour #9 putter(5 ft, i'm always at least within 5 feet on my approach shot)

I wonder who on this forum is a PGA tour pro, disguised as a normal player..

Basically your saying don't flick my wrists just after impact keep my hands/arms solid through impact ?

A little bit longer. If you make solid contact and the only problem is that it's going very high, then it's probably the wrists closing a tad bit soon. So yes, hold the wrists, arms, hands, etc solis through impact, but not by feeling like the wrists don't close, by feeling the arms continuing to move

your adding loft to the club, meaning your bottoming out just at the ball, not infront of the ball.

There could be a few problems for this

1) ball position is to forward

2) ball position is to far back, and your compensating by flipping at the ball

I would first set up an alignment station, so you know were your aiming and were the ball is located at. Then i would work on small swings, and slow motion, really focus on getting your weight forward and striking the ball with your left wrist being flat. Check out the 5 Keys' thread in the "Swing Thoughts" sub forum. It has some great videos and tips.

You can bottom out after. It just means you don't have enough lag, not necessarily no lag. Enough to hit it far and high, not enough lag to hit it and get enough back spin to have more control.
