I have been hooking my irons while my 3 wood and driver have been straight. I have worked on it the last couple of days with no luck.

It is not a terrible hook but it is a hook.

Please help, I used to be decent at this!

Cole, I just read this today from Golf Online and found it helpful:

If you’re consistently hooking the ball, you’re probably rolling your hands and the club inside too soon during your takeaway. Swing your hands and club back togther in a one-piece motion, keeping the clubface pointing at the ball for a few feet. This will help you get the club into a better position at the top of the swing and help you return the clubface squarely to the ball.

I'd similar problem last couple of weeks. During my 3 hours session on a driving range

I think I found the reason (for me at least-might work for you too). My left shoulder was bothering me lately, I feel pain raising my arm above shoulder level. As I found yesterday I also experienced pain, when my left arm was fully extended against my upper body (what will happen with full shoulder turn and slight hip turn). I caught myself protecting my shoulder (unconcious) and turning my hips almost 80deg, kind of following my shoulders, almost parallel on the top of the swing. That causes the club to be flat, way behind my back. From there the downswing's plane was very flat, I'd say at about 30deg (shaft to ground) and finishing low and far left. This caused 3 things at impact: 1. shallow attack, scooping the ball of the ground 2. extreme in-to-out-to-in swing (hook!) 3. high potential of shank if I reached out further on the bottom I corrected it by making sure, that my hips are not turning more than 45 deg at the top of my swing. My left shoulder hurts, but God Damn, it was worth it! Ball flight straighten out, distance is back, no more shanks. Check yourself if you laying-off on top of the swing a bit, that could be the same thing...

    • Day 430 - 2025-12-04 Slow motion backswings (with chippy shots) with AlmostGolf balls.
    • Day 24 (4 Dec 25) - Spent about an hour working with the new 55° wedge in the backyard.  Kept all shots to under 20yds.  Big focus - not decelerating thru downswing and keeping speed up with abbreviated backswing.  Nothing like hitting a low flighted chip with plenty of check spin and then purpose to float a pitch of similar distance.
    • Day 114 12-4 Put some work in on backswing, moving the hips correctly, then feeling over to lead side. Didn't hit any balls was just focused on keeping flowy and moving better. I'll probably do another session tonight and add in some foam balls.
    • Didn't say anything about your understanding in my post.  Well, if you are not insisting on alignment with logic of the WHS, then no.  Try me/us. What do you want from us then?? You are not making sense. You come here and post in an open forum, question a system that is constructed with logic, without using any of your own and then give us a small window of your personal experience to support your narrative which at first sight does not makes sense.  I mean, if you are a point of swearing then I would suggest you cut your losses and humor a more gullible audience elsewhere. Good heavens.
