It's simple, for me: I expect him to congratulate Padraig. I expect him to perhaps say "maybe I should have hit 3W off the 18th tee to get closer to the green." I expect him to say "I should have put the club back in the bag and started over." I expect him to say "on a day when many people were making bogeys I just couldn't." I expect him to say "I made a few mistakes this week, and they cost me, so I'm going to learn from that and try not to make those mistakes again."

Agreed Sergio's attitude was graceless and certainly not in the spirit of the game of golf or good sportsmanship more generally. I only hope somebody in his family or entourage is willing to set him straight on this in no uncertain terms.

My guess is that if he and his family were to read this, they would think we are the jerks with no manners.
