Purchased a 3 wood today

And while I haven't played a round yet, I spent a lot of time at the range with the new 3 wood and think it is really going to help my game. My weakness has been inconsistency at the tee.

It is a new Big Bertha 3W and seems much easier to control than my driver. My driver is an X460. I've had the driver since last summer and can hit it a long, long way when I everything is the way it should be, but I'm still wildly inconsistent with it. At the range today, I was consistently hitting the Big Bertha 3W 230-250 yds and with enough control to land on most fairways.

I played a par 3 course (w/ four par 4's) to 9 over the other day. 3 of those bogey strokes came on the par 4's. I think keeping it in play on longer holes is going to really shave some strokes off my card.

I'm not entirely giving up on the driver but I may reserve it for the widest fairways and the longest par 5's. Anyone doing similar?

I do the same, I always use it on holes with out of bounds and hazards. With the holes with wider fairways I hit my driver, but with my 3 wood I am way more accurate.

Before I could swing better with my new swing, that was my play, but with a 4-iron.

It's all course management.

I can't hit my 3W at all. I actually play my driver or hybrid better. I have been using my 3H off the tee alot more lately.

I can hit my 3 wood really well. But I dont understand, when is a good time to use it? Because when there are trees and such in my way or along the hole, it gives me a better target and i can drive really straight, im not afraid to use my driver on any holes because i usually wind up in the fairway. So when should i use the 3 wood on the tee?

Well if you actually drive better on harder holes then you are pretty much set. Only time you might need it off the tee is the rare occasion you want to layup short of some bunkers or hazards ahead.

I just don't feel 100% comfortable swinging my driver in a tight situation. Give me an open hole and it's bombs away but in a tight situation I play the 3 wood for accuracy. If the Driver is your most accurate club then there really isn't a reason to force yourself to use a three wood unless you're worried about hitting it too far.

The only time I don't hit driver off the tee is when the driver is too long.
I am not any more accurate with any of my woods but if I am on the tee and there is trouble at like 270 or the faireway runs out then I am hitting 3w and maybe even 5w depending on conditions. If I can't hit over it I hit a club that will be just shortcut of it.

Yep, and there never is a situation at my club where i have to come short because of bunkers or water hazards. Unless i play from the yellows on which i dont.
