Hello All,

I am looking for some help analysing my golf round statistics, which I have been tracking for a couple of weeks now. I am a fairly newish golfer started playing this summer with only a dozen or so round under my belt from 10 years ago. I really enjoy the game and like to push myself, so I came up with this little stat tracker to help see where I can improve.

I have just joined my local club Kirkbymoorside Golf Club, which is around 6 miles from my house, is a lovely course but quite challenging of the tee on some of the holes. I have never been a member of a club before so I have had to guess my handicap for marking purposes. I handed in my first signed card today which is the last entry in the tracker, sadly I had a killer 11 on a par 5 which was 5 of the tee on this little beauty below (pulled drive a little left twice out of bounds) :(.

Any input on the trends in my stats would be great to chat about to try and help me improve, personally I see my putting as one area which can greatly improve.

Thanks

Anthony

Your putts are one glaring weakness to me. Strive to get that average down to 36 or less. Beyond that, you will see a vast improvement in your game when you can get your GIR % up, which in turn also relates to your % of fairway's hit. Golf is a compounding game, so struggles in one area build on themselves and make you struggle in other areas. I don't know the length of this course, but if you can afford to sacrifice a little distance on some holes, try to help yourself hit the fairway. Once in the fairway, forget aiming at any flags and try to put the ball in the middle of the green. This gives you the most room for error both left and right. My game really improved when I learned that if I give myself two putts on every hole, even if the first is from 40', my scores will significantly drop.

If it were me, my goals would be as follows:

Fairway %: 50%+

GIR %: 33%+ (that's 6 GIR's per round, most of which you will likely convert to pars.)

Putts: 36 or less

Also, this is obvious but try at all costs to avoid penalty strokes and double bogeys or worse. Bogey golf on your course is an 88, so if you eliminate anything worse than that, and sprinkle in a few pars, you can get down in the mid 80's without doing anything drastic. Play conservative and be smart. Don't try to make the great shot when the good shot will work.
