I always had accuracy problems when I hit the ball. I was thinking I might try using a half swing instead of a full swing to help me with my accuracy. I was wondering if this is a good thing to do? How would it affect my distance?

Thanks

It might be a good thing to do in order to gain confidence with your accuracy, but in the long run, you should practice to try and determine what the real issue is. As for the distance, I am no rocket scientist, but if your tempo and swing speed remained consistent, I would venture to say your ball would go half as far. If you experiment with a half swing and an increase in swing speed, you might get some good distance and better results. If you are not comfortable with your accuracy, it cannot hurt to experiment with your swing.

A half swing could result in the same distance if it enables you to make better contact with the ball (sweet spot). When my iron swing gets in trouble it is because I am taking it to far back and I get out of position and start hitting it off the toe etc...whihc affects my true distance. Try it on the range and you might be surprised.

Try it and have your swing videotaped. You'll be surprised that it won't be exactly half swing.

Yes...good point. I took a lesson once and the Pro kept telling me to take a half swing which when I took a half swing it was actually a full swing on plane??? I had just gotten so use to over-swinging that now what I was calling a half swing was in fact a full swing You figure it out!!!

Yes I bet what I think is a 1/2 swing is going to be closer to a 3/4 swing. I tried before a 3/4 swing but that didn't go to well. I was getting the same results that I got from my full swing.

If I'm hitting badly I usually go to a half swing. Sometimes it helps.
