In the short time I've been a member here, I've come to respect many of the people that post and so I have a question and hope someone has some good advice.

Had an MRI last week knowing something in my right shoulder was not good and hoped for the best. Well the results show a pretty bad tear in my right shoulder (Labrum). I'm a right handed player so the good thing is that its not my impact side. Doc feels if I can live through it, that I should try since I just go back to playing after reconstruction of my knee.

I know, I'm 45 and falling apart!!

Anyway, without having to change my entire swing. Is there any advice someone may have? Has anyone else ever dealt with an injury like this?

I hate to shut down before the season is over.

Thanks in advance.

Get a new Doctor. If the tear is bad like you say it needs to be repaired and or rested so you can golf for a long time. trying to play while hurt is only inviting long term harm to your game.

Wok on finishing with your right elbow more out in front of you, low and off your body. Don't lift up your arm into your face.

Equipment, Setup, Finish, Balance, and Relax. All equal in importance and all dependent on each other. They are the cornerstones of a good golf swing.

Vinny,
I had left shoulder surgery last year for small tears in the labrum. I also had impingement, a bone spur, and a hematoma. Had to shut it down for the season. The right shoulder may be different, but I could'nt swing without severe pain. Surgery was arthroscopic but post-op had to keep arm immobile with a sling then several weeks worth of physical therapy. I still feel a twinge when I full roll the left arm. I'm 47, and it seems like I can hurt something just getting out of bed!

Vinny,

Well Benny, if it helps any, we're almost the same age and I can relate to what you're saying. Man I hate getting old

    • Day 58: night putting session for about an hour. Started with lag putting and ended with putts inside 9’. I need to work on putts from 6-12’, but in a solid spot overall.
    • Birdied a different #6 today (incidentally, also a par-5, but not the same one on which I previously birdied).  Here's the funny thing though:  it's the par-5 that caused me to post my "how do I avoid bogeys?" on par-5s recently.  So I guess I still haven't parred that hole.
    • Day 20, May 24.  Played 18 today, very poor ball driving.  One GIR, and it was a 4-wood from the rough.  Several other instances of hitting a green on a full swing (and at least one full swing motion -- a 50% UW) that wasn't for GIR.   Still shot an 87 and even had a birdie (chip-in).
    • Welcome to TST.  I spent a bit of time in the UK but I had to look up Wagon Wheels.  Don't think I ever saw them.  Had to Google to see.  Couple similar items in US but Google says they are different. 😁
    • Day 264 5-24 Worked on getting chest through and arms down infront of chest. Contact isn't great yet but on video looking better.
