Does anyone know what the swing speed range is for the Nippon 900 XH shafts and the Graphite Design YS 5.1 shafts installed in Cobra S9 irons? I contacted Cobra and was told by a guy that he did not know the exact information for the RSSRs on these shafts.
Unbelievable for a OEM!!

I am thinking about buying a set of S9 irons, but need to know the speed ratings before purchasing them. Any help would be greatly appreciated since I don't want to buy them only to find out they don't fit my swing.

Someone out there has got to have hit either the Cobra S9 or FP irons. Please, I need some feedback before shelling out between $500-$600 for a set of irons.

i hit both..

the s9 felt very chunky, but they were extermely forgiving and very easy to get in the air.. they were just very big... i dont know if im crazy about the wide soles on them....

The FPs were awesome and for the price you can not beat them.. if my mizunos were stolen today - i would probably go buy these... they were forgiving, had a good feel, and i was able to smoke the crap out of the ball with it...

I odnt think yuo can go wrong iwth either club...

good luck!!

I don't think it's that unbelievable for an OEM to not know that. They aren't the ones making the shafts after all, Nippon is. Even then you can probably find plenty of contradictory information even with regards to identical shafts depending on where you get it from. The best way is to just go and hit both flexes and see what works better. I've found that swing speed is a generally poor indicator of shaft flex in an absolute sense. I've played with people that have slower swings than me that use stiff, while I use regular. Swing speed is really only a part of what makes up that choice.

My swing speed is actually around the middle or high end of stiff depending on the shaft, but I use regular because they perform better for me. I get a little extra distance and don't have a huge loss of control. I really can't give a RSSR for the shafts even though I play them. I can hit the FP in stiff pretty much the same as the S9 in regular. The regular just feels better for me. Tempo seems to be a bigger factor in shaft from most of the people I've seen, I have a relatively slow transition at the top so a little extra flex up there isn't going to kill me, but I can definitely tell when I start rushing things because the shaft will feel like it's a bit too far behind.

Really all I can say is go and hit both and see what works better, everyone's swing is different and everyone has different needs. My experiences don't mean a thing to your swing.

forgot to add.... i have a swing speed of aroun 85-90 and i was given a reg flex on a demo day - but you really need to see what feels better to you -

Thanks to everyone's for your input. You have almost convinced me to buy the Cobra FPs. But, I am going to an Edwin Watts store near me so I can take out demo #6 irons of both the S9 and FP and play a couple of rounds with them.

Many thanks again,

Lew

    • Managed 51/41 this weekend.  Justin Thomas went 78 / 62 from round 1 to round 2. He has access to the best coaches, best technology, best gear, and plays probably every day (or close to it)... if he can have a 16 shot swing from one round to the next, who are we to expect consistency when going out 2x a week is an accomplishment (at least for me with 2 kids it is!).
