shaft troubles...

i recently purchased a set of r7tp irons off my buddy, and they came with project x 6.0 shafts. I love the irons, but im starting to wonder if the shafts are a hair stiff for me. i hit the 7 iron about 160, the 5 irons about 185, and the 3 iron maybe 210. The 3 iron never really gets up in the air that much, and while i know that proj. x is a low launch shaft, i feel like im leaving some distance out on the course. thoughts?

There is alot more you need to look at other than swing speed when getting fit for a frequency matched set, but from the sounds of it the 6.0 are probably a bit too stiff for you. You would probably need something in the 5.2-5.7 range, which would compare to most factory "stiff flex" shafts. Unfortunately, as far as I know, there is no way to bring a 6.0 down to a softer flex. I guess you could always just hit the gym and work your swing speed up a little. If you need a little more height with the long irons, try a flighted set. I play the Project X Flighted and love them.

thanks alot, your response confirms my thoughts, the shafts seem to be a little stiff for me. not too stiff that i cant hit them, but i think id gain some height, distance, and tighter shot dispersion from something like 5.5. but i think ill continue goin to the gym and get that swing speed up a couple more mph. am i right in thinking that 6.0 isnt too far off for me? they feel like they are juussst outside my swing speed.

Well.... like I said there is alot more than swing speed to factor into getting fit properly for frequency matched shafts, like tempo, trajectory and personal feel, but it sounds like from what you are describing that a 6.0 is a little stiff. A 6.0 is a rough equivalent to a manufacturers X-stiff.
