Being someone who's currently keeping his eye out for irons (not looking to buy tommorow, but if I see a good deal I'll take it), I was wondering if there was such thing as an inbetween iron, inbetween a blade and a cavity back? My handicap is roughly around 16, and iron play is probably my strong suit, 5-9 espeically, I hit a 4 we'll off a tee box on long par 3's, and currently am not carrying the three, because I can hit a hybrid longer and straighter. Anyways reading on the forums I became very interested in blade irons, and I don't know perhaps the challenge that they might bring? I would say I'm a slightly above average ball striker (when it comes to irons). My woods, eh not so much. Neways I know that I'm not to the point right now where I could hit blades, but I was wondering if there was something for an intermideate player. something that could be worked, but still has forgiveness? Thanks for your help :)

The only iron sets that i can think of the as between a blade and a cavity back is the cleveland cg gold and red irons and the titleist 755.

Could you have forged irons, that are still cavity? Or something like that? Could I hit MX-25's?

yeah you could probably hit them, i've tried them out and they are not as hard to hit as some forged irons.

You could always try a combo set like the Titleist 735.cm or Bridgestone J33 combo. They provide workability in short irons but forgivness in mid and short.

I play the Taylor Made 300 irons, a nice forged semi blade type iron. Few years old now but beautiful irons. Take a look at the shape of them.

    • Played 9 yesterday at Cape Ann in Essex, MA. Played awful with maybe 4 really good shots but the course is so beautiful being right on the water it's hard to be to upset. I haven't practiced in forever so I'll need to get going on that.  Been better getting to the gym since I've been out here in NH. I came out from Minnesota for my well being so I figured I should be working on just that. Still hovering around 226 which surprises me as my sister in law feeds me quite well. Excited to be back east for the Celtics coronation. Go Celts!!!
