hey guys, ive only been golfing for about 2 months. Im loving it a ton, but i need some help. My clubs are going about the same distance.. it seems like im getting under the ball alot. Is there anyone who had a problem with this too? What should or could i do to help me get rid of this problem? i setup with the ball off my right heel, i keep my right arm tucked in, and my hands infront of the club head.. anything you need to know? or is any of this wrong?

just a few questions... to help understand the problem

which clubs are all going the same distance? all irons/woods/'all of them' and how far?
are you measuring these at the range?
do you tee the ball up for all shots? and how high?
where in your stance do you tee the ball for Driver, 5Iron, 7Iron and 9 Iron?
what is your typical ball flight? really high or very flat or about right...

Are you right or left handed.. if right, the ball is way too far back. if left, it is ok for woods and should move more toward center as you go down through the shorter clubs reaching center about the 8 iron.

Hands really shouldn't be in front of the club head,,

get a lesson.

I agree with hig4s, your hands shouldn't be in front of the club head. The only time they would do that is when you are chipping or perhaps hitting a punch shot.

i think with the shorter irons your hands should be infront of the ball... draw a straight line from your left shoulder to where the ball would be for a 9 iron (center)... your hands should be somewhere along this line, which is infront of the ball at address.

ball position: driver should be opposite inside of left foot (right hander). Then equally spaced to centre are the irons, with the 9 iron being in the centre.

teeing up: for the driver and woods the ball should be teed up so that you can see half the ball over the clubhead if you place the driver head on the ground next to it. for the irons the ball should be pretty much on the ground... when you tee it up, just tee it up about 2mm above the ground. if you tee it up too high then you increase the risk of hitting under the ball and skying the ball and also it will interfere with your ability to switch to hitting off the deck during a round.

above all else, if you haven't already, see a pro and have a lesson! solid fundamentals like grip, stance and the swing itself are what counts. countless hours at the range will do nothing if you are practicing the wrong thing. get a lesson, watch the pros, check out the wide range of literature on the subject.

fairways and greens....

    • Day 5- Slow,  short swings with short practice club.
    • Lemme guess….’ We don’t want any confrontation so nobody says anything.’ Sheesh…..Call him out and fix the problem.
    • Went to a PING fitting day today. Going to be ordering a G430 Max 3w with a 75g x-stiff shaft at 5w length and a 3h. I forget what my fitter did with the shaft on that but she told me she’s going to email the club the specs of everything. The 3w combination we found pretty quickly. As for the hybrid, we tried a bunch of different head and shaft combinations for that distance with mixed results. Then she handed me the 3h and I took three swings with it and knew it was the one.
    • Yeah, this isn't sandbagging. It's outright cheating. He should be banned.
    • That’s quite a generalization. It’s clear that you don’t like water but there are plenty of us that drink it just fine. My daily intake is usually about 20oz of black coffee, 16oz of soda, 8oz of milk mixed into a protein shake, and anywhere between 30-60oz of water. It doesn’t even need to be cold and I kind of prefer it closer to room temperature than cold. I quite like the taste of tap water, with sole exception being the tap water at Magic Kingdom (it’s terrible). I can’t stand when people bring me tap water with a lemon wedge in it. I didn’t ask for lemon in my water.
