Hello all,

As you can see I am new here.  I have been playing golf since I was 13 years old and am now 22.  I have an old set of Mizuno MP-32's and want to get fitted for some new Irons.  My previous irons were not fitted, so I am really excited to get this done.  I am looking at some clubs, but wanted to get some insight on some people that maybe have hit them and what they think before I go and test them out.  As you can see I am used to blades, as the MP-32's are a blade.  My handicap is between a 1- 4.  I am 6'3 and weigh 230 lbs.  I hit my driver around 300 yards consistently with about a 280-290 carry.  I hit my 7 iron about 180.  Any more information I am willing to give out.  The irons I am looking at are Mizuno MP-4, Mizuno MP-54, Titleist MB 714, Titleist CB 714, Taylormade tour preferred MB and MC.  I like the blades, but could use some more support for the longer irons like 3-5.  I was also thinking of a mixed set, but I dont think that is a good idea.  Let me know if you guys have hit any of these clubs and what you think.  I think the MC and CB might be more forgiving, but I do love the blades.  I know for irons and all clubs its what I feel, but I have read the reviews and would love some more insight from you guys as well.

I don't really feel qualified to tell you what to play since you are single digit and I am a 15, but I will tell you that some of the greatest players in the world use a "mixed set", using player's cavities in their longer irons and blades in the mid and short irons. A few even use what some consider game improvement irons in long irons. Use what looks good and feels good to you, and more importantly what helps you score the best, if that is your goal.

Why don't you think it is a good idea? I mean the feel might be difference, but having some longer irons being more forgiving is a plus. I play MP-59 with JPX-825 Pro's in the 4 and 5 iron.

In the end do what is comfortable for ya, but I don't see the difference in players playing hybrids instead of long irons than mixing a different brand for a long iron to get more forgiveness. If you don't like hybrids, that is a way to go.

True I was just told by my pro that he said if you want the ultimate feel to play one set of irons, but I was thinking the forgiveness won't be there for those longer irons. Idk I'm torn between the two

Here's a tip. Feel isn't always what you think it is. That guy clearly thinks you must play the same brand for irons. Yet all that matters is knowing your gaps with your clubs. There are PGA tour players who play combination sets.

    • Yea Club Rat said it. I really enjoyed the Senator and the Judge, then over to Grand National where there a couple good courses plus a fun par 3. The one I do play whenever I visit there is Ross Bridge; something about this course that is just good fun. I hope to play more of the courses in the future, but tomorrow is promised to no one, so hope is the key word. Have Fun, iSank

    • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
