One tip that a guy was floating around on "personal lessons" on the golf channel is to have an internal clock for timing your swing. Do any of you guys count to a number so that proper lag is achieved? When I tried it today, I was thinking too much and couldn't make consitant contact. An example of this is counting to 2 when you get to the top of your backswing, and then to 3 when you hit the ball.

Usually use NXT Extreme's or HX Hot's

Sometimes I go Teeeeeemm-po. But not always because sometimes it causes me to over swing on the downswing.

I started counting "One, Two" on my backswing. I felt I was getting over anxious and not taking my time so I began counting on my backswing to slow myself down.

Use Vijay's tip....

He used to start his backswing on one and hit the ball on 2, but under pressure and the heat of battle, counting from 1 to 2 can be done quick because both the number 1 and the number 2 are only one syllable each. So, Vijay starts his backswing on 17 and hits the ball on the teen of 18.

I have tried this but only so it during my practice swing, I tried it while I was actually swinging and it was distracting to me. I use it to control my tempo but never during my actual swing. It's hard to take some one else's tempo and use it, everyone has a different tempo and different speeds work for different people.

Also try this little tip, when taking your practice swing don't swing at full speed. Swing at like half speed, concentrating on how far to take the club back and where you want different parts of your body to be during the whole swing. If you notice not many pros actually swing full when they practice swing, they refer to it as a rehearsal swing. You practice your swing at the range, you rehears your shot on the course.

    • He's going for that carelessly disheveled look but it comes off so manufactured and deliberate. Kind of like Boris Johnson. Tool.
    • Ok but seriously, are they allowed to use their phones for Tiktok or YouTube during the lulls? Rory's round took 5 hrs 51 mins
    • Hole 6, you need to hit a 240 ish slight draw. I decided to flight a hybrid. I made the perfect length backswing, I swung down better, and I kept my arms in front of my chest in the finish with a 3/4 finish.  The ball didn’t get to the tree tops, flighted push draw. I really felt that stretch of the club pulling me up into the finish.  2nd is the next shot, a 70 yard waist to waist distance 52 degree wedge that landed 3 yards short of pin high and one hop stop pin high. Nippy. 😁
    • Shot a 42. Got to making 1/2 to 3/4 my normal swing. Much better tonight. Should have been a few strokes lower. I blades a pitch shot on hole 1. Didn’t get width. Tried to make a 3/4 swing on a par five, but hit it full swing because my 3/4 is a full swing. A 8 iron went 180 yards and hit the cart path over the green into the lateral hazard. 😳
    • All of these things are possible. Couple of things to bear in mind in particular with regard to Sasho's point about a club flying out of the hands. First of all, even though a driver might have about 100lbs of force on the hands at impact at 110mph or whatever it is, most people have two hands on the club at that point (Vijay excepted, but I'm guessing his front hand was strong enough to hang on on its own), so 50 lbs per hand would be sufficient to hang on to that. Second, grips are also tapered, which helps quite a bit and they're sticky, which also helps. It seems unlikely that grip strength limits clubhead speed because the club might come flying out of your hands, but it's possible that your brain is holding you back because it knows (or thinks) it'll be uncomfortable. I would note that on occasion, I have hit drivers well off the toe or heel and the club twists in my hands as a result. That's unpleasant and I obviously try to avoid that. Subconsciously, perhaps my mind is thinking I might do that with a faster swing, so it limits my speed somewhat.  In short, while there are high schoolers with 120 mph club head speed, I think that's quite a ways from the norm and if their grip was stronger, perhaps they'd be at 125 mph. I don't think high grip strength generates speed. If there is something there, it is much more likely that low grip strength saps speed.
