Been practicing on the range hitting fades, so far so good up to a 5i. But, i cant seem to do it on the course!

What happens, the ball goes straight, so i end up to the left of the green. I usually just exagerate and out to in swing path, but should there be other things in the setup to help promote the current technique?

Ever try weakening your grip a tiny bit further? Also, I have a naturally have a strong grip which means that I hold off on most shots (release with the body) and have a difficult time hitting it right. If this is also the case with yourself then you just need to release a bit harder.

I think i struggle to hold off the release i think, and roll over to square at impact. Will try weaking the grip a bit further failing that, will try and really hold off rolling the forearms through impact!

For me, I've found that if you try too hard to do too much... weakening the grip, holding off the finish or rolling of the forearms there is just too much timing involved and thus really hard to hit shots with consistent results. I keep it as simple as possible. Aim slightly left of target (I'm a righty), setup is normal (grip etc), open the clubface slightly (depending on how much fade you want) and swing normally. Just let the angle of clubface do the work for you. Note too that, the more you want to fade it, the more you are aiming left, the more open the clubface is and the longer the iron is in your hand.

Thanks for the tips, i think i've been trying to over complicate things to make the perfect fade.

Few places i have that it said to keep things simple and just aim left with a slighty open stance, or weak grip and swing normal!

Aim left, and grip your left hand (for rights) harder, squeezing the handle, this will hold off the release.
