Leaving gift

Hi everyone. Basicly I am after some advice. My boss is leaving and we thought it would be nice to get him a club and have it engraved as a gift. I know very little about golf, so I'm not sure how to proceed with this idea. My first train of thought was a driver or putter (I know the rest of his clubs are Cleveland) and between us we can get him the top of their range driver no problem. But not playing myself I don't know if it's a very personal thing choosing the right club for you? We want it to be a surprise so can't ask him outright but I could ask his wife to look at what he already has. Any guidance would be appreciated. If not a club any other ideas (as golfers) for a leaving gift? Thanks in advance Chris

I second the Edel putter. It's probably something he wouldn't get himself unless he had the bug. You may have to get him a gift certificate or something since he has to be fitted. And you have to find one in his area. He has to be a golf nerd to go to the extra effort to get this done.

Edel makes a great product, and their fitting process is second to none, but it's not an extremely well known brand, even among a lot of avid golfers and may not get you the "wow" factor that you're looking for.

I'd also caution against buying any individual club, especially a putter or driver.  They're just too much a matter of individual taste and preference and it would be a shame to put that kind of money and thought into a gift and not have it used.  Instead, I'd opt for a gift certificate to either Edel (again, not that well known) or Scotty Cameron (extremely well known).  Either one will allow him to select the putter style he prefers, and to have it personalized as well.

I would get him an antique or special edition putter.

Then I would have it tastefully mounted with an inscription. If the putter can be easily remove from the display frame it would be even better. This way he could use it once in a while.

The biggest problem with this is actually finding a real original club and not a fake.

Solely because of this problem my suggest is likely not achievable.
