I've been Playing Golf for: 2 years

My current handicap index or average score is: 100

My typical ball flight is: Variable. Usually Push/Push-Draw/Draw

The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: Push and fat shots

I just started attempting to apply the S&T; method the last couple range visits, not sure if it is helping or hurting yet.

Thanks, guess I will have to get a youtube account next time I upload vids, as of right now the links above still work if you click them

Hi, you've just overdone some of the S&T; pieces. Now you need to feel the opposite side of the spectrum.

Couple good resources for you

Here's a video I put together for you

Quick recap

- Hips will feel like they stay on the "stick" or transfer forward a little.

- Left knee will flex at the camera, not so far to your right

- Torso will feel more "flexed" over. Want the spine to be tilted slightly right at the top of the backswing, like I'm doing in the drill above. Torso will feel much SOFTER.

- I think will help add some flexion to you right arm, it will have to fold more to get the hands to ascend.

Thanks for the in depth analysis, now i know why my swing was killing my back! it's going to take me awhile to adjust,I think I've been holding my right arm too straight for awhile, will update after a couple more trips to the range.

  • 2 weeks later...

had a half dozen times on the range to work on things, having serious shank issues the last couple outings, fat shots, pushes, mishits, with rarely any good hits.

I would recommend you read my other post again. Shoulders are too steep on the backswing, right leg is ramrod straight and the head is moving down and forward.

Make it look more like Mike Bennett or the swing I'm making in the draw thread. I'm referencing Mike Bennett to prove a point ;-)

Hips forward, upper back "soft". You're going to feel like your head moves a foot to the right on your backswing and your shoulders turn level.

Use this drill for the backswing.

Felt like I made a major breakthrough this last trip to the range. My main swing thought was shallow shoulder angle and hips forward and I felt like that gave me a totally different swing plane and I was really hitting well for me. However looking at the tape I am less excited, sure it felt better but I'm not sure if I'm moving the right way, looks like my head moves a ton, spine still not angled to the right, right leg still really straight

You have upper torso imbalance. Shift your pressure to right heel, feel taller with right side extension , create more right side lateral bend to start down swing keeping right shoulder external longer while right elbow leads instead of hands.

Also work a little on posture, less knee bend more flexion

Huh?-do you expect ninjab to understand this or are you just trying to prove your a smarty pants?-@mvmac has been helping him and he even said he had a major breakthrough-Don't know why the hell you think he needs more extension [quote name="chgogolfcoach" url="/t/77479/my-swing-ninjab#post_1067598"]You have upper torso imbalance. @ninjab nice job changing the picture here. I'd like the see the hips stay a little more centered, feeling like they are slightly closer to the target than your upper body. Then the next piece will be transferring the weight/hips forward while keeping the head steady.

Yes. Don't beat yourself up. These are better.

It's also going to be much easier to change the picture and work on things if you don't just hit a ball every ten seconds. Slow down man.

thanks guys for all the helpful feedback. I usually don't hit so fast(always do a practice swing too), but I was hitting so well compared to lately that I got over excited (maybe subconsciously I was trying to ingrain the feeling quickly, with fear I might lose it). I've read the 5s's post a few times, I'll keep it in mind.

It's been awhile, so cold outside, my indoor setup is a little crowded but better than nothing I guess.

Question, are my hips too forward or is this a good amount?

Yes, and your head's now going backward during the backswing quite a bit… Gone too far to the other extreme.

    • I hear the points from OP (@TommyRude, decent first post BTW), but these 'never' takes are almost always illogical. Masters is the one of those places where an 'older' player has the best chance. Having said that the second shot on 15th IMHO was a bit of gamble which I think in some way could be labeled as lack of discipline. It seemed even short irons/wedges were bouncing off this green. A 4-iron seemed like a very low percentage shot from 230 out. Bit surprised Harry D agreed with the choice.  Yeah, well we have a player who has been playing like a god for last couple of years without a complex (seemingly) and people would rather watch cardboard decompose. So, yeah, Rory serves what we ask and hope you are wrong.
