I have trouble arranging a foursome. Fortunately, the guy I share an office with is in charge of our company scramble twice a year. We're not quite up to 50 players, but close with 10-12 foursomes. He just asked folks to send in their average 18 hole score (or whether they're a golf newbie) and they make up the teams based on A, B, C & D players. Last fall I was a D, having never played. This year I'm a B. Progress!

Anyway, some courses will deal a little bit, but others just charge whatever their normal fee is plus for whatever food you arrange. I was surprised they didn't come down very much at all considering it was 40+ rounds of golf involved.

Let me know if you have any questions. If I can't answer, I'll ask my buddy.

I have.

Next time I suggest you just ask the questions so we can avoid this "I have, now what are your questions?" step.

it looks like he did ask his questions and no one answered them...

typically, we use a shotgun start unless there are only 50 players or 13 groups. If you have atleast 72 players, try to do a shotgun start, it's quicker and most will finish around the same time.

Also, depending on the function, you will most likely do scramble because there are usually players that don't play more than once/year and they prefer to not be holding up the whole group.

I did our Father's Day outing this year. It was 72 golfers and included a continental breakfast. If you are doing prizes of any kind or are expecting the group to stick around afterwards, you need to do a shotgun start, or at least go off both 9's. If not, you will have the first group done 2 hours before the last one. We do a scramble. You can have everyone play their own ball if you like. It won't be any slower or faster. Keep in mind the ability of the players. If it is all guys of equal ability then it's no big deal, but if you have a wide range then it can be less fun. If you are doing prizes and a few guys who are scratch come in and whip everybody and clean up the rest of the guys might not like it too much.

I have.

well mainly i was more wondering if people that set up the outings can give me an idea of what they like better. scramble style or individual score. I was thinking of trying to host an outing next year and I wanted to get some other professional oppinions on how other run there's. Sorry i didn't go more into detail, but I am trying to get honest oppinions. Another thing I would ask more individually is what suggestions are for new organizers..... Thanks again, Kevin

The course we used this year uses a site called Golf Outing Pro.

http://www.golfoutingpro.com/

It was very cool. As people sent me their money and foursomes, I just loged in and entered the info. It also let me put in where I wanted longest drives and closest to the pins. It even has an option where you can e-mail all the participants reminders, rules, etc. If you go to the site they offer tips for planning an outing. They even give the names of courses that use the system.

No. It was a free service that the course offered. They may charge the courses something, but I didn't pay anything for it.

    • So no joke, last evening post work nine must have been the craziest side I've ever played: Bogey, double, double, par, birdie, birdie, birdie, double, birdie. Two gimme birdies, one 15 footer and one bonus bomb from prolly 35 feet on no. 9. Full disclosure, it's a super easy course when greens are running at an 8 with easy welcoming pins. Still, a couple of firsts there. Driver freed me up starting the fourth hole. Anyway, driver notes: 1) anti left left hand grip. 2) no structural bind on hands/grip. 3) left shoulder HAS to get up to chin with humerus completely detached from chest and shoulder socket (feel) Big game tomorrow, aiming to break 80.
