Ya know something I can't seem to figure out...

Why do all the drivers and fairway woods out there that are non "Tour" models have closed face angles?

The reason I ask is that, I have a pretty good swing with a natural draw, but my swing speed is just not that fast. It's like, I don't hit it far enough or consistently engough to mess with the "Tour" versions of all the new bombers, but when I pick up one of these regular versions of the Callways or King Cobra Drivers, it turns my natural draw into a huge hook.

The thing is, I hit one of the drivers with the slightly open face angle, and it flys straight and true with a little draw, but I sacrifice distance because of the heavier shafts and lower launch angles of the "Tour" drivers and fairway woods.

Aside from getting a custom shaft in one of the "tour" drivers, what can I do to get the forgiveness of the regular woods without a closed face angle?

Two options come to mind:

1) Buy a driver with less loft and set it square instead of closed (which will add the loft back to the club)

2) Buy a Tour or "better player" head and custom order the shaft.

Note too that "straight" has to do with the shaft, too, so the same clubhead you hit "straight and true with a little draw" may react differently and fly in a different direction with a lighter, less stiff shaft.

thanks for the info iacas...

i was actually wondering about the shaft thing...i suppose a weaker flex shaft allows a greater release of the clubhead through impact hence the bigger hook. i'm sort of having that problem with my irons right now b/c they are regular flex shafts. eh...it's just hard to tell what you should be using when you can't afford all the fancy launch monitor stuff ya know?
