Anyone watch first round coverage of the US Open on ESPN during the afternoon? Around 1:30 they aired a story about the Payne Stewart tragedy. Hard to describe their summary of the story to you but it was chilling. They showed the acre of land that has been cordoned off where the plane finally went down. Hopefully you guys recorded it on your Tivo.

They did a phenomenal job with it. I was almost done with my workout and ended up extending my time on the eliptical to see the end of it. Even though I was not a big fan of his, it was still chilling. I remember following the reports in 99 when it was hapening.

It was a good piece, and I miss Payne simply for the ability of his play. The 1999 U.S. Open is among my favorites. Payne was quite a jackass early on in his life, but he got older, wiser, and nicer. His swing served as a model for tempo for a number of years.

The piece was good, but I'm in favor of putting the Payne story to rest. There are only so many times you can pull at the heartstrings without cheapening things or dulling the senses.
