Hello. First time on the site sorry if this isn't the right place for this. Im relatively new to golf. Seldom played for the last 2 years. My game is less than desirable. I'm roughly around 110+-. My clubs are no name knock offs I bought at a yard sale. Im talking like the bag o clubs you get at walmart. I'm wanting to up my game a bit. And not sure where to start to spend the money...do I go out and drop a bunch of money on some name brand stuff? Or get some lessons with the clubs I got now, I'm not sure they even fit me. They seem too short. Or get my clubs I have now fitted for me and see how I do...thanks for any replies, I'm not looking to go pro just wanna be a lot better

Depends on the amount you are willing to spend. I would (and have) buy some clubs from globalgolf.com if I were you. They have very good deals on name brand clubs. Oh yeah... Welcome to TST!!

Take the clubs you have and get lessons. Let the pro (who's years of experience will help you improve much faster than teaching yourself) help you decide on whether you need a different set of clubs now or later when your swing improves. No need to spend high dollar on new clubs because you get next to nothing in trade in value and the used clubs hit "farther, straighter, and longer". If you don't believe me, then look at the advertisements on the golf clubs that were sold 5 years ago compared to today and then look at the golf club tests from 5 years ago compared to today.  Good Luck.

Lessons first and then a game improvement set (used, or new).   Check out http://thesandtrap.com/t/78501/diary-of-a-bogey-golfer-with-his-1st-custom-fit-clubs if you have time.

    • Day 292: light day today. Mirror work, working on getting my hips more open in the downswing.
    • Day 135 (27 Apr 24) - played Bradford Creek today while waiting for the missus fly in from her extended visit with the grands.  Good day to stay focused as it was a hurry up (groups pressing from behind) and wait (groups taking their time ahead)…a good day to stay mentally in the game - play the shot and not get frustrated in the waiting…
    • Day 122: 4/27/24 Supposed to be a Stack training day but I was beat after yard work today. Practiced chipping and putting at The Creek. The practice green is pretty slow but the session went well.
    • Went to the range today and was cursing myself when I got there as I realized I forgot my phone. I added an earlier wrist hinge to the short backswing I was using last time practicing and ball strikes were really good for the most part. I'm heading back to Boston Thursday to see friends and family and have a couple of rounds planned so I'm hoping to keep this feeling.  Yesterday morning I weighed in at 232. My goal had been 230 but maybe now it's 220. I'll have to think about that. I feel so much better without the extra 90 lbs. from 2 years ago. Still a softl slightly less protruding belly so it might be time to go hard on eating better. Work in progress.
