Thank you boogielicious, my instructor gave me a simple drill to fall back on in the event of a relapse and it works a treat to help ingrain the proper swing if things go to pot again! :) Regards Mailman

ARRRRHGGGGGGGHHHG!!!!!

This is frustrating! In the last month I've developed a real shank problem BUT it's only happening with my wedges!?!??? Every other club is fine (relative of course to all the other swing faults I have!:) but as soon as I pull out my 48, 54 or 60 wedge my game just goes completely to crap!!!

Are there any good drills to help fix this because it's just killing me!!!

Thanks

Mailman

Had the same problem.....stood a little furthe away and my thought was to hit the ball off the toe.  corrected the shank.

I use to have the same problem until a golf instructor gave the following advice. He said to keep my head down and don't worry where the ball will go. But most importantly, he said that I should be able to write a report on the blades of grass moving. If I do that then the outcome will be favorable. I took his advice and made sure my main focus was to watch my club move the blades of grass. Many times the ball landed before I even lifted my head, but the results were always favorable as long as I could honestly say I could write a report on the grass.

Give it a try.

Thanks lads. I've played a couple rounds after going back to the basics with my instructor (breaking my swing down and then putting it back together!). The result again is like night and day. Apart from one right angled shank on one of our par threes that I still managed to get up and down for a 4 net 3 I haven't looked back. In fact to underline the progress I've made, in my knock out match play round on Thursday afternoon I was one down going in to a particularly difficult par 4 16th hole at my club. My drive was right on the money leaving me 74 yards to the pin. I pulled out my 54 degree wedge in an attempt to run the ball up to the hole. The strike was perfect with the ball coming to rest 6 inches from the hole for a tap in birdie and the win :) Regards Mailman

Congrats! Glad you got it figured out.  Seems like everyone has to go back to square one every once in a while.

    • Day 87 (27 Jul 25) - Made it an easy session with the wedge this afternoon, worked on staying in the shot and not lifting out - split between low spinners and higher floaters.
    • Shot my new low 72 (par 70) today. Had 5 birdies, also a new best, which included a hole out from the bunker on par 3 6th, and another hole out pitch from 15ish yards on the long par 4, 15th.  Got a couple of other good breaks. Except for an OB drive on 14th (and ensuing double bogey), not much went wrong. All in all I might have used up a year's worth of luck in a single day.
    • Back in the saddle after vacation.  Day 1: played 18. Did not have it, but still battled to an 82. Felt closer to a 90, but that’s fine.
    • Yes, I have seen this from the older crowd that play the 4,700 yard tees and want to know why they get less strokes from there. Always trying to game the system 🤣
    • Day 300 - 2025-07-27 Good 44-ball segment. GSPro was acting goofy, so I just put it on the Quad. Then I hit a bunch of low spinners. Hit 14° down to 9.8° down, with the average closer to 12.3° or so. Focused mostly on the backswing. Right knee good, hands roll up and out a little before laying off (FAR).
