Last week I was a very inconsistent but fairly long ball hitter/hit it really high with a very violent swing. When I went back I would often close or open my club face and so some days I would be able to adjust it and hit the ball fine but some days I would shank balls and slice and draw balls like no other so this week my coach had me change my swing completely!

I now do a 1/2 to 3/4 swing with all clubs but my hybrid and driver which I usually hit fine but I keep a hooded club face as I go back and if I go back just a bit to far I go back to my old ways but I have found it really is working. I shot a 87 on a 6900/74.6/141 course yesterday and a 88 on my home course 6900/72.1/133 today. I have to lay up on some par 4's and par 3's with lots of bunkers and all that are less then 200 I kinda of lay up but its a new game for me. But when I address the ball I have a lot of forward shaft lean and I deloft my clubs now and keep the ball low.

Was just wondering if anyone has ever had to make a change like this and how did it work overtime? How long did it take you to be able to do a full swing/gain your distance back? I went from a 160-170 yard 7 iron to about a 140 low 7 iron but much more consistent and straighter so is it worth it?

Meant to get a video today but phone died out on the range after it didn't charge last night D:

I've been there. Tried the same thing. I'm not one to tell people don't do this and don't to that because everyone is different. I can say however that the style you are speaking of was just like my old crap swing. Works some days and doesn't work some days. I went away from it after half a season. Pounded balls at the range for 2 years until I had a natural feeling and no gimmick swing. Went from super strong grip and all ball positions forward in stance to fllattening out my swing tremendously. Found a solid constant grip and constant set up for all clubs. The power I have added is tremendous with a flatter swing (former baseball player so it feels natural). I used to be a 10 finger grip guy but now interlock and my ball position is constant middle for irons and hybrids while driver and 3w is off left heel. Long story short, do what you have to do but make sure you find the swing plane that fits you, get a good consistent grip and a good consistent set up. Without those 3 you are set up for failure.

    • A few thoughts on the past few minutes. I agree that fairways are overrated, but Rory might want to reconsider that view in the short term. For the second time today, Bryson is hitting two shots in a row from the same greenside bunker.   Xander had a similar issue on 12 earlier today, although I think that only happened to him once today.  My mother and I are sitting in my living room commiserating.    Poor Patrick Reed, only bogey of the day on #18.  Shane Lowry had a clean scorecard with 15 pars and 3 birdies.
    • Three great shots from McIlroy's group (Smith and the US Am Champ) on 12.  The amateur won closest to the pin, although I doubt the group had a bet going.
    • I thought complaining about Fleetwood's appearance was my schtick   For real though, I agree with you, and when I see that, especially in a major, I'm confused.  When I play in a multi-day event at my club, I plan my clothing in advance because I want to look my best.   If no one else, their clothing sponsors should do this for them.  I think Nike used to do this with their stable -- I used to look forward to seeing their posts on the Facebook before majors to see how Tiger and Anthony Kim and friends would be dressed. Meanwhile, Jason Day is dressed fairly blandly today.  Who saw that coming?
    • The hell is Thomas Fleetwood wearing? He looks like a divorced dad from 1998. Even the shoes are hideous
    • I was wondering this and haven't seen it on today's broadcast OR yesterday's, but apparently Cabrera did show up.  He currently has the third highest score for the week and is playing his last hole of this year's event.  I'm not particularly keen to see him, but I was wondering if he was present, and he seems to be.
