I'd probably say, 1000$ is my limit on a new set.... That being said, I spent 200$ on my used titleist 735 cm set... but I also had bought several other sets between 150 and 200$ before I settled with the Titleist's... so in reality I could of bought the Mizuno mp4's that I had been eyeing at the time....

$250 is my cost for a set of custom built irons. Swingweight +/- 1, frequency matched +/- 3 CPM, FLO shafts and loft/lie adjusted for my WTF length and equal distance gapping with Winn Dri Tac grips. But I build my own clubs.

In 2009 I paid $700 for my custom fit titleist 710 CB's at Edwin watts. I would have a hard time spending more than 800 for irons, $400 for drivers, $200 for fairway/hybrids, and $115 for wedges.
