Who all plays Ping's S58 irons? Do you like them? Why or why not? How do they compare to a "players" iron? I bet its a long shot, but looking for a comparison between the S58 irons and Mizuno MP60 irons. Im looking for more information on these irons and didn't find much by using the search.

I was refunded my money for the MP60's I have (had) because of numerous problems with them, quality wise. I wouldn't mind picking up another set...but I think this is a sign. They were great irons, but after switching from Ping i5's to MP60's, I completely neglected Pings side of a player's iron. I love Ping as a company and their service is unmatched in my opinion, so it would be nice to stick with them if I could.

Just wondering if anybody has any previous experience or if i should just stick with getting another set of MP60's.

I've hit both and they are both pretty nice. I personally prefer the Mizunos, but I'm starting to come around on Ping products in general. For whatever reason almost all Ping stuff just looked weird to me originally. I've been giving them more of a chance recently and really like the i10's. The S58 to me doesn't have the same kind of feel as the Mizunos, not as soft I guess. I'm a big fan of the MP-57 and the MP-60. If I was going to play Ping, I'd get the i10's but the S58's are also nice, I just need a little more help than they provide. Really you just have to hit them all side by side and compare how they work for you. Of the 2 Mizunos and the Ping, I get the best overall performance from the MP57's with the S58's coming in a close second. The feel of the Ping is definitely different though, not a bad feel, just not as soft. Obviously I'm not good enough at this point to play any of those clubs out on the course, but they are all solid performers.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
