I bought a Taylormade RBZ Stage 2 driver over the winter on sale. The shaft in it broke and I contacted taylormade, they said they wouldn't do anything because I bought it from rock bottom golf. I then had an Aldilla Voodoo shaft put into it, it is a stiff shaft, but the length of a 3 wood, ever since then, I have not been able to hit that driver. I had an older Cobra Amp driver, the only issue is that it is a regular flex. There are times where I hit it 285 and straight, other times with a baby fade, and other times where it's 240 and 30 yards into the woods. Part of me wants to sell both, and buy a new stiff driver. The fact that I have hit the cobra straight and long makes me want to practice with that. But I just can't get over having to slow my swing down so I don't slice it. Most of my bad drives are, I assume, from swinging too fast for the flex. With my Taylormade before it broke, I hit a fade, but it moved maybe 5-10 yards from where I aimed. So I would aim just left of center and be middle or right of fairway almost every drive. Now that the shorter shaft is in it, I just can't hit the club. I know there are probably some swing issues, but it used to be slight fades, and are now big slices. Hitting friends drivers, I've had no issues hitting fairways. So, basically, I have a Stiff RBZ Stage 2 with what I believe is a 3 wood shaft, or a longer, but regular flex Cobra amp. Should I use one or the other and try to learn to hit those? Or just sell them, if I can, and buy a new driver?

New or used. Fixed not adjustable I assume. I play the TM Stage 2 Driver and woods. Different tip sizes on some shafts so make sure you ID the specs on the shaft. Too stiff goes left for me a lefty, maybe right for righty.

I professional redid my RBZ, he said he would find a shaft that he had in storage and used that one and installed it. I assume he knew what he was doing, but who knows.

Ok, what is the data on the shaft, name, weight, etc.

Yea, the Voodoo shafts are good. It just might be a little strong for you. Did you test your new driver set up on a simulator after your fitter fit it?

I did not. He just did it and dropped it off at my golf league when he was there. I used it for the league that night but it hasn't been great

Aldila shaft ratings are one higher than everyone elses, meaning an Aldila R = a S in some other brand, and an Aldila S = a X in some other brand. I have a Callaway Razr Fit 2012 model practically brand new with an Aldila RIP'd NV R in it and for me it's like hitting with a board. I really have to swing out of my socks with it. I bought it as a practice driver during the winter brand new, and even checked with Callaway about it - yes it's authentic. I should have an A shaft in Aldila, unfortunately Callaway preowned didn't have any available.

Technically with my driver SS I should be swinging a S shaft, but a R shaft fits me better. You go by feel and ball flight.

    • Good advice. In general, you want to take whatever weight you are lifting to a couple of reps before failure, for muscle growth. There are other tactics for PT related stuff. I would trust your PT person.  For muscle growth, you can go like 30 reps to failure. It is tougher to gauge. Also, it takes 2x as long to do the same number of working sets per week if you are doing 15 instead. It is way less efficient, but your case is special because of the injury/aggravation to the hip.
    • Several years ago I got paired with a twosome of golfers, one of which had a maybe 5-year-old son with him. The kid had a putter and a 7i with him, and on some holes he would drop a ball near the green, chip on, and putt. If the kid started to get distracted, the dad would ask, "Do you need to rest?" The kid would nod yes, and then take his dad's seat riding in the cart for a couple of holes. It was a slow day, and the kid was polite and friendly. We got through 18 just fine. (If it had been a crowded course day, I'm sure it would have been less pleasant.)
    • Caution for the seniors on weight training: Listen to your body. (I'm 75) I got a recent session with an orthopedist after a training-related injury. I put too much weight on a new resistance machine at the gym and ended up with bursitis in my left hip. Of course, it's the hip I dislocated back in 2023. I have my first physical therapy session tomorrow. I remarked that some days I can do 45 lbs. chest press - two sets - without much effort. But other days it drops down to 30 (😩) with just one set. (Complicating factor: I had digestive problems in this fall and lost about 20 lbs., with slip in muscle tone.) Orthopedist said that I want to feel some resistence, but that I should go with lots of reps with manageable weights rather than trying to set some sort of lift-pound record. I'm sure I'll get some refinements on lifting during tomorrow's PT.
