Polo, yachting (esp. 30 meter international racing), airplane racing (jets, inline engine prop and rotary engine prop) and trophy hunting for endangered big game species with a spear.

Not Really! However, my rich son-in-law actually does 3 of the above (he hunts around the world with guns and bows).

Duck hunting, deer hunting, bass fishing, classic motorcycles (have a Triumph Bonneville -hobby/sport?) and Corvettes (racing is a sport?).

When I was younger I played a lot of organized men's softball (shortstop/infielder), some basketball, tennis, handball and racquetball. Football ended in high school, where it should for everyone. Soccer didn't exist.

When I was much stupider, I chased women and caught far too many.

I grew up in a neighborhood with a lot of kids my age (and directly across the street from the school grounds with fields and courts for all major sports) and all boys played outside everyday until dark and what we played was whatever sport was "In season". Even the worst and youngest players then were better skilled than the average player of the same age on organized teams today, because you played some of every position. When we played football, we all passed, caught, kicked, blocked, tackled and ran with the ball. Every ten year old I knew could punt a football at least 35 yards. The same with othe sports. Today, many kids never play some of the major sports at all.

I play basketball in the Winter. I played in high school and college. It helps keep my competetive side occupied while golf is not a possibility. I also bowl in a couples league every other weekend. I have found that bowling can be a lot like golf. Just when I thought I was figuring it out, my average was up to 170 and my last few series I was averaging over 180, it goes away. I didn't even average 150 for three games Saturday night.

I will be 49 years old in February and between work and family (2 kids in high school that participate in many activities like band, track, soccer, etc..) my spare time is mainly as follows:

70% - Golf related activity (playing, practicing, etc...)

30% - Working out (lifting, running, etc...)

When I was younger and had more time to play I liked many sports and played as many as I could. I actually played volleyball for the USAF (United States Air Force) for 8 years and I was a licensed bicycyle racer (USCF - United States Cycling Federation) when I was in my late 20's and won a USCF race. I was also selected for an Armed Forces Cycling Team and raced my bicycle in Germany. Now all I want to do is compete in FSGA and USGA events and WIN!!!

It is amazing how many golfers play(ed) hockey. The advantage we have in the south with our year-round good weather is probably counteracted by your hockey history.
I played tennis and lacrosse in college and rowed crew.

I used to play tennis but i gave it up when i picked up my golf. When i played for a club, it just took up far too much of my weekend. My son would play late on a Friday night to beat the heat and then i would play from around 11 to possibly 5 or 6 depending on how well the team went. That only left Sunday for golf and by the morning, you were stuffed anyway.

I have a tennis court at home so i have a hit every now and then anyway and i just decided that Golf was more my game. Needed to buckle down and concentrate on that a little more. Not that it's doing any good

I live in the Boston area and we have year round golf up here. We just put on under armor, get colored balls, use icepicks to stick tees in the ground, sweep the greens, and use our friends truck to plow the fairways.

Google a big snowstorm in 2004 in the Boston area, 50mph winds(right next to the ocean), 15 degrees, and 28in in Nahant where the course is: we played in it.

    • Day 20: 2026.01.22 Hit about twenty balls at the range. Quietly pleased with how the changes are bedding in, surprsingly consistent ball flight. Hoping to film over the weekend to capture new movement.
    • You might also consider a tune-up lesson. Check and see if anything in your set-up or basic swing is holding you back. I have been playing for more than five decades, but on occasion I've had to make swing tweaks due to age, loss of flexibility, etc. You don't have to reinvent your swing. A couple of static set-up changes might really help out.
    • Good advice. In general, you want to take whatever weight you are lifting to a couple of reps before failure, for muscle growth. There are other tactics for PT related stuff. I would trust your PT person.  For muscle growth, you can go like 30 reps to failure. It is tougher to gauge. Also, it takes 2x as long to do the same number of working sets per week if you are doing 15 instead. It is way less efficient, but your case is special because of the injury/aggravation to the hip.
    • Several years ago I got paired with a twosome of golfers, one of which had a maybe 5-year-old son with him. The kid had a putter and a 7i with him, and on some holes he would drop a ball near the green, chip on, and putt. If the kid started to get distracted, the dad would ask, "Do you need to rest?" The kid would nod yes, and then take his dad's seat riding in the cart for a couple of holes. It was a slow day, and the kid was polite and friendly. We got through 18 just fine. (If it had been a crowded course day, I'm sure it would have been less pleasant.)
    • Caution for the seniors on weight training: Listen to your body. (I'm 75) I got a recent session with an orthopedist after a training-related injury. I put too much weight on a new resistance machine at the gym and ended up with bursitis in my left hip. Of course, it's the hip I dislocated back in 2023. I have my first physical therapy session tomorrow. I remarked that some days I can do 45 lbs. chest press - two sets - without much effort. But other days it drops down to 30 (😩) with just one set. (Complicating factor: I had digestive problems in this fall and lost about 20 lbs., with slip in muscle tone.) Orthopedist said that I want to feel some resistence, but that I should go with lots of reps with manageable weights rather than trying to set some sort of lift-pound record. I'm sure I'll get some refinements on lifting during tomorrow's PT.
