Some interesting moves by the PGA to accommodate for the Olympics (Mid August).  John Deere Classic kinda getting the shaft being played the same weekend as the olympics, and only 1 week between The Open Championship and PGA Championship.

Notable Dates:

-Masters----------Apr 7-10

-Players-----------May 12-15

-US Open--------June 16-19

-Open Champ--July 14-17

-PGA Champ---July 28-31

-Olympics--------Aug 11-14

-Ryder Cup------Sept 30-Oct 2

Humblebrag alert :  I'll be attending the FedEx St.Jude Classic in Memphis and The US Open at Oakmont back-to-back weekends

I don't think Jordan will be defending the John Deere next year haha

How many players will each country have representing them for golf?  Or in particular, USA.  It will certainly dilute some fields, but how bad?  Surely though those top players who plan to compete in the Olympics will be skipping a lot of smaller events because there are so many high profile events clumped together.

As for Jordan Spieth not defending John Deere, that is a shame.  John Deere is always one of my favorite events to watch.

Callaway XR 9.5 + 1, Taylormade R15 3 Wood, Burner 3 Rescue, Callaway XHot 5H, Warbird 4H, Nike Vapor Fly 6-AW Irons, Titleist Vokey 54, 60 Wedges, Taylormade Rossa Fontana Putter, Srixon Z-Star Tour Yellow.

Best Score 2017:  82 (Traditions at the Glen, Par 70)

Favorite Course - Conklin Players Club (Par 72) - Best Score 86

Will be an interesting year.  Two majors in one month?!  The debut of the Olympic event.

The Olympics, if it was to be held this year, would include:

McIlroy and Lowry (Ire), Spieth, Johnson, Watson, Furyk (USA), Day and Scott (Aus), Rose and Willett (GB), Matsuyama and Iwata (Jap), Stenson and Lingmerth (Swe), Garcia and Jiminez (Spa), Oosthuizen and Grace (Saf), Kaymer and Siem( Ger), Delaet and Hearn (Can), An and Bae (Lor), Aphibarnrat and Jaidee (Tha), Dubuisson and Levy (Fra), Kjeldsen and Bjorn (Dan), Lee and Fox (NZ), Grillo and Cabrera (Arg), Luiten (Ned), Lahiri (Ind), Illonen (Fin), de Jonge (Zim), Haotang (Chi), Zanotti  (Par) ... and that's the half of the field currently in the world's top 150. I'm sure the winner will cherish their medal but will anyone take it seriously? I'd rather they'd made it a 64-player matchplay event, for the novelty if nothing else.

Why wouldn't they take it seriously?  I understand they are all buddy-buddy with each other, but representing your country is always a prideful time.  I think there will be some laughs, but definitely some intense moments as well

It's a rare achievement to call yourself an Olympics Golf medalist.  You better believe they will take it seriously.

It happens once every 4 years, the window to succeed is tiny.

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
