I've been Playing Golf for: about 8 years, with a pause of a few years. Started more 'serious' again about 1,5 year ago

My current handicap index or average score is: My current handicap is 28.5

My typical ball flight is: My typical ball flight when things go wrong is an unintentional fade.

The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: get rid of the fade; mostly with long irons (4/5) and my driver.

Videos:

I'm probably a bit too much to the right of the ball (from my view); I do that intentionally because in my experience there's less risk of hitting an unintentional fade that way. Am afraid I 'correct' a mistake with another mistake like this.... any thoughts?

I would work on that lead arm during backswing and through swing. In the video below you see the lead arm straight all the way through contact. Also notice how the torso stays over the ball rather than swaying back like you do.

It likely bends because he has no other way of getting the club back "far enough."

I would imagine a down the line video shows that your shoulders turn very, very flat.

Thanks guys, appreciate it. Funny thing is that my swing feels l keep my arm straight, yet I can clearly see myself now that's not the case. Maybe I should practise it with a shorter backswing first? I do 'dance' a bit too much with my lower body.... a lot to improve :-) Tomorrow I'll hit the driving range again. I will ask my friend to make a video from behind as well.

Tried yesterday to focus on keeping my left arm straight in de backswing (and going forward): damn, that messed up my shots. Has to get worse before it gets better I guess. Didn't think about making a video of it; i do have an other video from behind from a couple of weeks back though:

I know my swing is, euhm, not that good so will take any help I can get :)

Check out the drill below from the shorter/better swing thread. The feel for me is pressing down on my left thumb to keep my right arm extended. This straightens my left arm and then limits my swing to its natural length.

Work on it slowly at first. Do the drill below to get the feel, then when you swing at balls, go up to A4, then to A5 and stop. Then go up a small amount then start the downswing from there at half speed. Remember to move your weight forward as you would do normally.  This is part of the Simple, Slow Specific practice method.

Don't worry about hitting perfect shots while doing the drills. Just focus on the drill. I would also recommend filming it and posting so you know you are doing it right. Below is an example of a similar drill. I start off without a ball. I am focused on pressing down on my left thumb to keep my right arm extend, thereby straightening my left arm. This then only lets my arms go as far as my shoulders will let them to A5.

I slowly speed up to about 75% swing speed. Then I put a ball down and repeat. I'm not focused on the ball flight, just the drill feeling. I do this at the range too.

Great tip, thanks a lot. Will def. practise that.

So basically my backswing should be, at least for now, a lot shorter than it is right now. That last practise video gives me a very good idea of the drill. Thanks again.

Working on my swing a lot, also with your tips in mind. Feels a bit better now, I drive further and more accurate now and it shows in my scores. One part of the focus is keeping my left arm straight like you guys told me to. Maybe hard to see on a picture but I think I have that under control now:

That still looks like a very flat shoulder turn. Do you have any recent video?

    • Thanks! Better though? Not worried about overdoing it yet. These were also the best videos of several I took. More to be done for sure but moving in the right direction I think.
    • Can be out and up a little more. Not quite over-done yet.
    • Down the line and face on from today. Still feeling like I’m sticking the club into a hole in the ceiling above my right shoulder and then big loop inside to start downswing. That’s how it feels. Not how it looks though! Gotta keep working on this for a bit but I see a lot of progress. 😁
    • Day 5 (13 Mar 26) - Friday shootout cancelled- made it a practice round working from mixed tees. Plenty of up and down work around greens.  Best was a hole out birdie on the par 3 #5 hole - nice pitch and roll w/Pw from about 10yds off the green - dead center flagstick drop.  Much of round was focused on getting solid weight shift into lead foot.
    • Day 208 3-13 Worked on wrist arching and flow. First time hitting reall balls at a range in months. It was nice to see ball flight. Still not sure it beats my backyard practice station.
