Just bought a Titleist 906F2 5W. Wanted to get it with a steel shaft but they only had graphite in stock, had a few shots with it and liked it enough to buy it. Got the UST V2 shaft. After playing a few rounds with it I'd like to switch it to a steel shaft.

Anyone had this done before? not necessarily the 906F2 but has anyone had a wood reshafted from graphite to steel? I presume it's a no brainer as the 906F2 is available in steel.

I also assume moving from a 86 gram shaft to a 130 gram shaft (assuming a Dynamic Gold S300) will require shortening the club a bit to maintain swingweight. I'm guestimating a 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch.

Any advice, thoughts?

I owned the 906 F2 5 wood with the Aldila NV stiff 75g. I found that it went pretty straight with that shaft, but your swing speed might be higher than mine. I'm around 95 with a driver. I've hit the 906 with a steel too and didn't like it at all. Same with the 585H. I think these clubs were weighted best for graphite. I used to play steel in all woods up to a couple years ago and I still prefer steel to some degree, but I didn't like it with these heads. On the flip side, I still own a 19 Taylor Made Rescue Mid in stiff steel that is way better than the graphite version.

It shouldn't be a problem if you take it to a good club maker. The shaft should only cost $15 at the most + labor

Thanks for the insight boodaboy16. I have the 585.H 21 in steel and absolutely love it. My 3W is also steel and love that. I generally just prefer the extra weight of steel, lightweight graphite shafts just put me off... maybe it's a tempo thing??

I bought the 906 with graphite 'cos from reading the specs (and also no steel in the shop the UST V2 has a similar torque and kick-point to the Dynamic Gold's. Thought I'd give it a shot and see how it would go. Distance is great, slightly longer than I was looking for though, it's encroaching on my 3W a bit, so steel is probably the way to go anyway to bring it back 10-15 yards or so. Thing is my consistency with the graphite, sometimes it draws when I want a fade and vice versa. I just can't seem to get the timing right unless I really hold back on the throttle, in which case it only goes as long as my 585.H hybrid.

This is probably not a good example, but I did have a TM Bubble Burner reshafted from graphite to steel back 7-8 years ago. Any good club maker who knows what they are doing should be able to take care of this for you. FWIW, I still have Dynamic Gold in my Titleist 904 3W. I've tried graphite (including with my

review of this rocket launcher ) but for some reason always come back to steel. Personal preference I guess.

    • Akshay Bhatia beat him in a playoff last year I think. He went something like -7 on his last 7 holes to get into a playoff and then rinsed a wedge on the 1st extra hole in a way that would have made Tommy (and Rory) blush.
    • Tristan, did you end up getting the new Edel wedges?  I'm very about due for new wedges.  I was trying other configurations a few years ago and somehow my 54 and 58 are both hand-me-downs that I never got around to getting as new and fitted, and my last new-as-in-new wedges were Ping Glides a long time ago.  I was thinking of Edel wedges earlier today, although their website seems to list only two fitters.   Did you end up getting them, and if so, what do you think of them?
    • @colin007, in terms of realistic sci-fi, its the best ever. They actually had an astrophysicist consult on the movie to be as accurate as possible with what we know about the universe.  For like dystopian, Blade Runner is probably king. Action/suspense is probably Alien/Aliens. Though Starship Troopers is fantastic. The Matrix is amazing.
    • Day 4 (August 14).  Full swing in my indoor practice room;  6-iron, off a mat, into a net.  Focus was on what I believe was my priority piece at last lesson (which, admittedly, was almost three years ago, due to absence).  I hit about a dozen balls this morning before going into the office.  (Also, errata to yesterday:  9 of the 12 coins were picked up on the second or third go around -- you can't pick up one on the first go around for that drill)
    • Watched The Gentlemen, took a little bit to get into it, but very good Guy Ritchie movie.  Collin Farrell and Hugh Grant were great. Give it a birdie.
