Can't get irons in the air?

Numerous amounts of things.Here are 3 obvious ones

1) Attempting to hit the ball to hard

2) Standing to far from the ball

3) Hitting the ball on the upswing

 

That said, I played today and had exactly the same problem. I tried everything I knew, but kept hitting the ball smack in the face. Bloody frustrating
