Is there a grind for wedges that at address, there is no bounce.

I've finally learned to chip and can do it well with fariways to my pitching wedge.  Once though there is some bounce added on the wedges though, I end up hitting the chips thin unless I am on a fluffy lie.

Thanks in advance.

Couldn't you lean the shaft forward a bit to minimize the bounce?

Why do you care about the bounce at address?

I could but I'd rather keep the loft as is.

I "feel" that when chipping (I chip like I putt... whatever method that is) the bounce at address hits the ground before hitting the ball.  This is my "feel" only.

The bounce isn't the problem, bounce is your friend. Helps the club "glide" through the turf.

I think I might understand what you're talking about.  Try opening the blade on your sand wedge a bit.  Aim a bit left and hit the shot a bit harder than you think you need to.  It should come out a bit higher and softer and probably go right a bit due the open face.  Using a SW from a tight lie is a shot that requires a lot of practice and trial and error.  The bounce AND grind of the wedge dictates how the club reacts to that tight lie shot from closely mown fairway or fringe areas.

Yes if you can, find a wedge that sits somewhat flush but has a good amount of bounce. The other part is mostly technique, you should be able to hit a pitch shot off a green and just "bruise" the grass.

Thanks but is there a particular "grind" that consistently will give me what you referring to above?  I'm being lazy I know.

My higher lofted wedges (54 and 58*) are both Titleist Vokey models with "M" grind and only 8* of bounce.  I think the "M" grind has more to do with both wedges' ability to slide through grass or along the ground easily.

You can find information on grind and bounce at the Vokey wedge site.  Lots of good information to help people decide what wedges might make the best sense for them based on conditions usually played on.

Most of my golf is played up north with dirt base, soft grass (bent for the most part) and generally soft to wet conditions.  I don't want wedges that 'dig' because of the normal course conditions in Ohio.  The Vokey website helped me make good wedge bounce and grind choices.  Both seem to work pretty well for me.

A lot of the wedges have gotten pretty good with this the last couple years with offering "tour" grinds to the public. Just have to set it down and see how it looks. Edel wedges are really good along with Callaway MD3, Titleist Vokey (S,M,F grinds) and PING Glide (except ES).
