Nike Forged Blades : can't see any reviews, officially or otherwise on The SandTrap, so who:
* Owns/uses them?
* Has hit with them?
* Likes them?
* Dislikes them?

These were the next set of blades I was going to demo after the Mizuno MP67 and Titleist 695MB 's.
Any thoughts/rants, etc?

Nike Forged Blades

Well for the past few weeks I think I have tried every blade there is to try on the market today, and the nikes where absolutly the worse out of the bunch, I could not hit them to save my life, even when I hit it perfect it felt as if I had it of the heel of the club. Thats just what I think thought, but after reading reviews on them alot of people agree with me, the 67's and 695's are two of the three sets that I am going to be getting for christmas, I hit both of them great, if I where you I would also give the Bridgestone J33 Forged Blade's a shot, they are the other set in my list of three that I narrowed to down too. Hope this helps =)

Nike Forged Blades

I just spoke with a friend of mine, because I'm considering going to these irons from my Mizuno MP-33s. He hits the CCi Forged blades, and said they are incredible. He also mentioned that he uses the "Project X" shaft, which I've never heard of, and he tells me that his ball flight is much more boring, and it make the clubs about a 1/2 club stronger. I found this interesting, and will be trying his clubs in the next couple of weeks before I place my order.

Since I'm a lefty, and they don't make the forged for lefties, I tried CCi forged. They were very decent; can only imagine the Forged are that much better. Pardon me for asking though, if you're a 25 handicap do you think it's wise to jump to blades?

Depends on your confidence-level when using blades doesn't it?

My 25-handicap maybe due to me being bad at using the PW, SW and putter. Or - I might be outright lying. Stroll-on, shine-a-light, apples-and-pears, cor-blimey me old china...."maybe it's bee-cos I'm a Landahner!!!"

lol maybe if your off 10 - 12 you can be a good enough ball striker too use blades and crap at everything else, but at 25 your being a complete idiot mate, people won't think your a better golfer and it wont lower your scores, it won't serve you any purpose so maybe you should grow up and swallow some pride and get yourself a proper set of clubs to suit your ability

Seriously now, that's just it, though - how can you say that blades are no good for a beginner?

What did golfers back in the 70s and 80s use when they started? They didn't bitch and moan about what could or couldnt be achieved - they just went on and did it . (something severly lacking in folks today - too much 'paralysis-by-analysis' when they should be just getting on with it and hitting the damn ball) A high-handicap can mean you're crap at: a) driving b) iron-play c) short-gane d) putting e) course-management Etc, etc. If one can hit as good with blades as they can cavities so soon into starting up the game, why not take a chance on blades?

By you using the argument that you might be poor with the wedge... but you're ready for forged irons... Come on... I would've bought the crappy putter argument (to an extent) , but if you can't hit a wedge, you definitely can't hit a forged 4-7 iron.

If you have lots of money to spend maybe you should invest in some lessons.

Not neccessarily.

Somone's short game could be bad whether they use CBs or MBs.

I see your point about the blades... but you're missing one HUGE problem with your argument... There are A LOT more people playing golf these days because you now don't have to be a supreme ball striker to enjoy the game. The game improvment market is geared at helping people stick with the game, simply because 90% of golfers can't hit a blade consistently enough to develop any sort of game. And if you can't hit your irons consistently how the hell can you expect to manage your game. We're just trying to help you enjoy your new hobby... If you're a very good athlete then maybe you won't have any trouble hitting those blades.

However, if you're an average joe, like the rest of us on here, perhaps you should settle for a set of game improvment irons and spend the extra money you would've spent to get those pricey blades and get some lessons.

exactly, it has to do with how well you can hit irons, not your handicap. i am off 26 and play with forged blades and i hit them very well indeed (i average 225 with my 3 iron) but i am low because i dont have a good short game (5-6 3 putts per round) so why should i switch to cavity back just because i am a high handicapper?

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
